Premium Members Charles King Posted December 2, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 2, 2004 Terrible form in that picture! :P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It might not look like a steadicam but have you checked out the results of what it can do? I mean't the video clips, if you did not get me.

Some of the clips realy are broadcast quality in regards to what the steadicam is doing (not vid quality that is very poor).
TJ Williams
Horizon Horizon..... Also don't show yourself in a big sliding glass door in your demo! Good runs in the Fargo stuff, but with a very wide lens.... His strange form may be partly due to a lack of fore aft adjustment between the vest and arm. it seems to be some kind of pin and hole deal... Overall it's the best rig I ever saw made with carpenters tools. Design is fun to talk about at all levels, We've discussed all aspects of design and innovation here from gymbal choices to Alien magic. Based on the number of folks out there building cheap steadicam type systems, by next year this guy will be selling a ready built rig, then I guess we can discuss it here. After we've paid what used to be the price of a house for a rig, it is strange and facinating to see someone build one for almost nothing. I for one am glad it won't support an Arri Bl.... Premium Members Jason Williams Posted December 3, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 3, 2004 There are some awesome homebuilt rigs on the homebuiltstabilizers site, there is one arm in particular which could put the Steadicam one to shame ... so well machined and built, it's indistinguisible from a Pro arm! (For anyone interested there is a pic here : http://www.bassonsteadyforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=187)

I think the guy said it only cost him around £1500 to produce. Amazing. Lets hope he doesn't get sucked into the tempting world of industry pricing. (dsr11's only cost around £50 to produce, shame on sony). "One for the the underdogs" woooof wooof
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted December 4, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 4, 2004 I have nothing against homebuild anything, i do that frequently with all kinds of stuff. However, Matt, you should keep in mind that there is a lot of research and development costs before any one, Sony included, can put something on the market that they can garantee for a fair period! THAT's why you pay more than the raw production costs. Oh, and I think that a normal day's pay of any labouror will quickly show that you cannot expect that kind of prices for high tech(nology) equipment! This has nothing to do with underdog feeling! <_<
