Fed-ex account

Hi all, and mainly to the Newbies;

Sign up for a Fed-ex account. Doesn't cost anything, put down a credit card, whatever it takes but get an account number.

Its very hard to help someone out if you can't provide one.

The point is now in addition to helping out I've got to get the bill and then to pay it long after the favor is over. You, thousands of miles away, are oblivious to the wake your favor is still creating.

So my .02 tip of the week is to get an account with someone and memorize the number. I know mine from memory and its saved me countless times.

Janice.

Great advice.

So simple to get one , so many different uses .

Also a good idea to ask FEDEX to link your account to a broker for duty fees. I asked FEDEX to be my broker (they offer the service in Canada), so whenever there are duty fees, there are no delays and all the brokerage fees are sent to my account.

Cheers.

Frederic

Janice,

I don't understand the point. Alfeo seems to, so I feel dense. But as far as I can tell you didn't describe the issue having an account solves.

I have an account, though I rarely use it. I get a discount for some reason I have forgotten so I like having it.

Brian;

If you're serious, I'll explain.

It goes on your account and then you get the bill and you pay the bills and you have the cash to do that.

If it goes on my account then weeks later, I get the bill and have to do all of that.

For someone who does the favor, like me, all those steps add up to more work. You, the person who is getting the service, should do it.

Janice

Brian, we all used to have nice, fat profit margins and could afford the time to do all that now we're all scrambling to do so much in a day with less that its one more thing that takes our time and our resources. (Remember when you went somewhere for an appointment and they would "bill" you? Now its pay when services rendered because they can't afford to do all the paperwork, billing, mailing, etc.)

Your account, good for you, you haven't needed it at some point you will.

Thanks Janice, I think I get it now. There is an assumed scenario involved.

The scenario as I understand it is: Bob should get an account so that when Sam ships him a loaner widget, the shipping bill will go directly to Bob. This saves Sam the concern of billing Bob to cover the cost of shipping.

I did not find that to be clear in either post, but was able to piece it together, i hope it is accurate. I would tend to agree. It's more efficient.

I have used and do use my Fed-Ex account, just not often. That's why I asked for elaboration. I assumed "do whatever you can to get an account" was an indication that the account could be utilized to make one's life consistently easier. What I gather is that having an account might make someone else's life easier in the event they loan me something from a great distance. I'm 100% down for that and will recommend that to others in the future. I just misunderstood that it's not so much a necessity as an easy to establish convenient courtesy.

I would think it could be more necessitated if Sam refused to loan the widget without Bob's account being used. Though I believe there are other ways to charge a recipient for the cost of the package at the front end, I could be wrong, but a Fed-Ex or UPS account does seem to be the simplest solution.

I normally find your posts very insightful and quite simple to follow. I had no such luck with this one. Thinking I had missed something (I clearly had) I wanted to know more to understand. I often get in trouble for that and if you were somehow offended I apologize.

Brian;

No offense with me . . . and clearly no one is hitting you up for stuff very often. I think all should now borrow as much as we can from Brian and hopefully they'll all be out of state. . . (small LOL).
