Premium Members matthew pearce Posted July 6, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 6, 2011 I want to make sure I'm as prepared as I can be for last minute calls. Looking for recommendations on what are the top 4 or 5 power cables that you cant live with out these days. My current feeling is that Alexa power cables and Red cables would be my top two but I know Ive also flown on boards? What 5 power cables would you experienced guys recommend me buying first? cheers

Limiting it to five is not something I would recommend. you should have ALL the power cables you would encounter because the cable you need WILL be the cable you don't have. The minimum camera power cable assortment you should have would be the following: Arri 12 volt (Also happens to be most Video Cameras and Aaton) Moviecam 24Volt Arricam/SR3/416/235/Alexa power Red Panavision LW Panavision Large Lemo Sony F35/23 Genocide that's seven and you should never have one of any cable You should have two of each the cables listed here. Premium Members William Demeritt Posted July 6, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 6, 2011 What is your work primarily? What is your bread and butter? You could always get the names of some good cable builders and call them up the day before you have a gig with a camera you can't yet power. However, if you're looking to plan for the future, I'd say it starts with the gigs you're already getting.
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted July 6, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 6, 2011 Eric's post is spot-on. However, personally I have not seen or used a Moviecam in 2-3 years so if you have to cut one that would be it IMHO. By the same token, I have Moviecam cables because they are still around somewhere and they are viable Steadicam cameras. Robert
Premium Members matthew pearce Posted July 6, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted July 6, 2011 thanks guys - i'm in Los Angeles and my current TV, low budget feature work has all been Red, Alexa, S3 and Genesis. I would love to have 2 of everything but right now I'm looking to see if anyone is using something regularly that I'm not ready for. So thank you Eric, your list is what I will aspire to, that seems like a good list.
