Premium Members Jessica Lopez Posted September 6, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 6, 2011 Hey Guys! Some of you already know that I am shopping around for a stabilizer to finally purchase. Yay! My friend told me about the Steadicam EFP listing on Ebay yesterday. So I checked it out. The listing and pics looked good. The price was too good to be true. A whole system for $1800.00 USD? So I inquired and got some good responses from the guy. I told him I was interested and he said that it will have to safely go through ebay since we are "purchasing now" (funny can't click that option on page, 1st red flag). After I started talking to the guy he took both items off Ebay so people couldn't inquire. Today I get this email from Ebay about buyer protection, and the transaction is 100% insured and all money will be refunded if otherwise. The email was almost believable. I noticed you couldn't click on any ebay links and there was no customer support number, 2nd red flag. So I decided to call Ebay to guarantee that the transaction was safe. They immediately told me that no Ebay seller would ask for Western Union and be handled outside Ebay with buyer protection. That can only happen with Ebay checkout and Paypal. I am so glad I am the kind of person that has to make sure. I feel kind of retarded for getting this far but I am glad I was able to see. I just don't want this to happen to any other person out there looking for a rig. Here is a PDF copy of the email sent in case you see this posting again. He took them down before I was able to copy the listings on ebay. Fly safe!

Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted September 7, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 7, 2011 It is awfully nice of ebay to insure fraudulent transactions. This guy really went out of his way to make things look legit with that letter. Reminds me of using ebay back in the days before paypal when western union actually was a common method of payment. Things have come a long way since then. ~Jess
