I am taking a class at Tiffen next week and if I really enjoy it I plan on buying a rig. What I am currently considering is an Actioncam Red Edition. I have found a couple used rigs in great condition that are around the $10,000 range. I have seen mixed reviews on the Actioncam but Owners and former owners have for the most part good things to say about it. Also looking to pick up a remote FF and then buy rest of the things I need as I get more cash. Thanks for the help guys and I look forward to being a member of the forum. Premium Members James Davis Posted October 29, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 29, 2011 Scout no chance, flyer if you took off literally everything you might get away with it, but it would be a real struggle, not recommended, zephyr should be the minimum weight capacity rig that you need to look at to handle a Red MX. Nice Second Hand rigs come up for sale now and again, keep an eye out and you might find a bargain, I wouldn't go brand new for your first rig as you won't get much weight capacity for your cash. You should be thinking of what kind of investment are you willing to make and how it will benefit you. Steadicam will require a lot of time and dedication in your life. What kind of productions do you want to work on? How heavy of equipment are you working with? What kind of jobs are you getting now? Will your investment be returned? Steadicam is by no means easy. You will be challenged mentally, physically, and financially (all at the same time). Not just in operating but in the job market as well. The weight of the camera is, and the Epic weighs less than the One. A Scout can probably fly a stripped Red Epic with ease, while a stripped Red One would be pretty much body and lightweight lens only. That's without considering how to power the camera. These distinctions and limitations are also why you should probably be looking at rigs that won't get in your way of rigging the camera, such as the aforementioned Pro, XCS, etc... You need to remember that in addition to the camera you will also need to power and allow for the weight of the following on your rig: Wireless Follow Focus Wireless Video Link Downconverter Matte box Bridge plate/rails etc You also might want to be prepared for those days when they for whatever reason want to shoot on drives instead, because that instantly adds quite a bit more weight to the camera, even more so if they are using the original battery/drive cradle. Frankly..... only an international survey by an independent party would prove either one of us right or wrong as to whether there are people in the world who comprehend what a Red One is but do not understand what the phrase "Red MX" refers to, so i'm happy to agree to disagree. If you want to spend your day battling out semantics regarding slang terms for a camera that is used day in day out in the industry then go for it. I mean if you wanted to be really pedantic the full name for the most recently upgraded version would be the "Red One Mysterium-x", so in effect we are actually both incorrect....
