Knut K. Pedersen
Hi. Does anyone know how to reset the software on Hytron 50 batt. I want the cycles to start on 0. I have put in new cells, and have tried the reset button. That did not work. Knut K. Pedersen
Premium Members Chris Hood Posted May 13, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2004 Greetings All, I was hoping to get some help in regards to purchasing new Anton Bauer Hytron 50 batteries. I've purchased gear from B&H Photo for years with very good results and what I usually consider great prices. (I'm in Los Angeles, so there's no sales tax) However, their website says they are currently out of stock on that item. Just wanted to know if there is a comparable place to buy in terms of price, service, reliability, etc. I did see a place called G&G Technologies(video) in New Jersey, wanted to know if anyone has done business with them. Thanks for any help. Regars, Chris Hood
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted May 13, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2004 Maybe Aspen (or now Aspect) has similar batteries as they are now part of Anton Bauer? Rob van Gelder
Mitch Gross
G&G Technologies is supposed to be good. I have not done business with them but know others who have.
Kurt Warner
Chris I just bought 2 Hytron 50's from evsonline.com and they matched the B&H price quoted on the web. They have a store on each coast so shipping was quick . One thing to note about AB's trade-in program is that it is no longer. They discontinued it the end of last month so forget about getting any trade-in discount . I ordered my batteries from Lou in the Philly store and was very happy with their service. Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted February 13, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 13, 2005 Just got a few new Hytron 50's. Did Anton Bauer do anything to these batteries? They will not charge on my PAG or Frezzi Chargers they "Fault" about 30 seconds into the charge cycle. The PAG charger has the newest all chemistry program in it and chargers my other Hyton 50's just fine. Did Anton Bauer make it where you can now only charge their batteries on their chargers? Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted February 14, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 14, 2005 Yep, that´s AB´s policy! They have bought Aspen last year and now they cancelled all their products, their mount (same as sony V-lock) and chargers. Did not tell any of their customers or Aspen customers, I was just informed I could not get the 4way charger from Aspen ( but already had 6 batteries) though it had been ordered 3 months before. Finally got a well performing demo unit. They do not allow any other brands on their chargers and protect their own batteries from using other chargers. They will not see me as their customer!
Nicholas M. Chopp
There is at least some logic to their insisting on using AB chargers, though. They're very proud of having an excellent performing product, and off-brand chargers do not always give a quality charge. Then again, buying another company and not bothering to inform customers of changes IS pretty dirty.

If this really truly is AB's new policy then I'm done with them.
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted February 14, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 14, 2005 This is AB´s scheme to force their EXPENSIVE mount, that is not neccesarily better than others onto their customers! Because let´s be honest here: the 3 golden studs from their mount are not used for conducting, only holding the battery (firmly) in place, as I understood. In fact they use the same miniature plugs ("banana pins" I used to call them) and their female parts for the power leads as the Aspen or Sony mount or the old Steadicam MK 3 batteries! And really, those other well respected chargers are capable of using any type of battery, regardless of the brand or chemistry! Monopoly, that´s the word for it
Premium Members Michael Stumpf Posted February 16, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 Guys, I think what AB is doing is perfectly normal. Think about it... Does PC work with Mac components? Are Ford and Chevy electronics interchangeable? Does Preston parts work with the BFD? I could list thousands of things where one company makes things and makes it where it's products cannot be used with competitors. That's business. They are protecting their company. Like in anything, there's always a bullseye on the back of whomever is #1. There are a ton of "copy cat" companies in any business and the leader will do what's necessary to protect their #1 place. I can't understand why it would bother anybody that AB is protecting what it has?? It happens in every business all over the world.

Posted February 16, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 Guys, I think what AB is doing is perfectly normal.Think about it... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Christ Michael Stop, Just Stop. For 15+ years (Longer then you have been in the Biz I surmise) AB Batts have been chargable on non AB chargers. It's not until the middle of last year when they lost the patent suit to PAG that they put a software hack in the batts to prevent them from being charged on a two pin charger. Really Mike it's getting tiresome and your starting to sound like Peter Abraham.......
Premium Members Michael Stumpf Posted February 16, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 Eric, I understand and know that it was only until recent that AB batts could be charged on other chargers. My point was, they were obviously losing some sales to other manufacturers. So in response, they obviously changed their battery electronics to only allow AB batteries to be charged on AB chargers. That's perfectly normal. Every business updates their products and if competition is closing in or "taking away sales" they are going to make changes so they can't. That's my point. How is that a bad or wrong thing. And why would this upset you so? When I bought my Dionic 90's I had to buy an AB charger since they couldn't be charged on either of my two PAG chargers. I just sold them and bought AB chargers, no biggie it's the way it works. Why on earth would you get mad at me for believing that? Oh, and you are right I haven't been in the business for 15 year I've been in this business since 1993. :D

voice of reason!
Funny I thought i joined the steadicam forum..... it appears I joined the WWE Smackdown forum instead! For christ sake everybody calm down if a post offends you ignore it don't rise to it!!! although I think Eric over reacted on this one! It is in a companys interest to protect it's products though. Look at Steadicam you can't (or couldn't things may have changed) buy just one part of the system the arm for example, you have to buy a whole rig! thats there way. If AB said you can only buy 4batts and a charger nothing seperate would this work????? No!!!! P.s. I've kept my identity secret as I don't want to ruin my name by joining in stupid silly arguments. This is why people leave! Voice of reason
