rechargeable consumer batts

Hey Ya'll,

 

Can anyone recommend any good 9v, AA and AAA battery chargers and rechargeable battery brands. I'm looking for one with a few slots to charge, give status of the charge, charge fast and are smart. I'd like to know what crew on set use/suggest.

Decent rechargeable consumer batteries (double AA triple AAA etc) are not cheap at all and they are small items that are easily lost.

 

Which is why most people just stick to disposable duracell's etc for torches, worklights and what not.

 

I just make sure any little torches etc run off of Double AA batteries as they are the most common and easy to find batteries around.

I posted this question because on set, my AC's bartech needed to be changed about 2-3 times throughout the day for a 3 day shoot. It was just slightly annoying because the store near me only sells 2 packs of 9V at about $10 each. My question should have been,' is it even worth buying one.' But I guess I'm the one who should be doing my own math, lol. But maybe I would be better off posting this on a sound mixing forum. Either way, I was just curious.

That's strange. A standard 9V in my BFD lasts a good 2 days of all-day usage. Maybe something's wrong with the hand set that's causing it to drain the battery faster?

If memory serves, 9V rechargeable batteries are pretty dismal for recharging. I don't see those around very often.

 

I personally bounce around about 20 "Eneloop" AA and 20 AAA batteries that I've bought at Costco over the years for use in my household personal electronics. They hold a charge fairly well (Apple now sells rechargeable, rebranded batteries in their stores which are Eneloops).

The consumer-grade quick chargers are tough on rechargable batteries, from what I've read....due to heat buildup and crude circuitry to recognize full-charge state. Trickle chargers are much better. If you go with rechargables you should consider avoiding quick-chargers, to avoid cooking your batteries.
