Premium Members Scott Gilbank Posted June 20, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 20, 2013 I am hoping that some operators with much more experience than me can assist with some suggestions for a HD High brightness monitor ( 7 inch - ) to replace the standard sd monitor on my Flyer LE. I am happy to spend up to $2000 or so... Any help would be much appreciated.. Many thanks Scott

Stavros Papastavrou
Marshall Electronics V-LCD70XHB-3GSDI Best bang for your buck. Hi, sorry to intercept the topic. I 'm looking at this particular model since I don't have enough funds to get a nice cinetronic gen2. My main concern is outdoor sunlight viewability. The sun where I live is brutal. Are the quoted 800nits, 1000:1 contrast ratio enough? Any info on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Premium Members Carl Wiedemann Posted June 25, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2013 The Marshall Transflective models will give you decent results in daylight relative to the cost, under $2,000. This is what I'm using on my Flyer LE. I think there have been some discussions on these boards regarding people using them on their Zephyrs, so you may want to do a related search. There are several versions of the transflectives with different input and battery options. http://www.lcdracks.com/monitors/model/V-LCD651STX-HDI.php
Premium Members John E Fry Posted June 25, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2013 Hi there, Chopping the end off the LE monitor cable & replacing that mini-DIN connector with a BNC & a power XLR is pretty easy. From there I've always had a V-LCD70XHB-3GSDI on there & never felt the need for the more expensive yet smaller transflective. Premium Members John E Fry Posted June 25, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2013 There's a newer model of the same thing that is the same size & brightness but also offers waveform & other advantages over the older XHB, the V-LCD70MD which you can get for the same or even less money! If you'd like some help with or pictures of the power/video cable mod just drop me line. Doing this also allows HD-SDI through your LE with NO additional modification by the way, so you get full advantage of whatever monitor you then choose to use.. Tiffen have been supplying the XHB Marshalls with certain new rigs for a while so you can have confidence in them as eminently suitable Steadicam monitors. Oh, & I have shot in very bright daylight with that XHB monitor quite happily with a hood. Here it is mounted on my EFP last month for the BBC's Springwatch series: John E Fry
Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted June 25, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2013 I have the Zephyr with the 800nits monitor. It works, but it is true that I ended up is some situations where I could not see a thing on the screen.
