Premium Members Jason Glucksman Posted April 14, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2014 Did anyone see this system at NAB?
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted April 15, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 Are you talking about the Tilta follow focus? The thing that I thought was odd with that system is that they have some kind of proprietary wiring for their digital motors, so you can't use third party motors or motor cables. Premium Members Andre Perron SOC Posted April 15, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 It did "look" pretty. But it was not operable. "Not ready yet" was the answer at "can I try it?" Ask Peter Hoare about it. And, honestly, I'd be (amazingly & positively) surprised to find a reliable 3 channels system for 5K... Premium Members Joshua Gitersonke Posted April 15, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 I poked around with the Ikan version of a follow focus for about twenty minutes... walked away from it got close to it...with the controller. . it seemed to do just fine. It's a no frills device from what I could tell. it will auto calibrate from what they said. I asked them to do it and there was some kind of hiccup with it. I started taking to someone around me and about thirty seconds to a minute later the guy said it's working again. He had basically very little knowledge about it. Although he was doing a good job explaining it for the amount of time he had it. which was 1 or two days I think. I couldn't seem all that bad. it was well machined. but very simple. I can't attest to it's viability on set but i didn't hate it.. The motors were heavy... at least the high torque ones.
Premium Members Lars Erik Posted August 6, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 6, 2014 It looks nice. And the price is amazing. If it works. $5400. Anybody played around with this Tiltamax FF? http://www.tilta.com/info/d-7-_en.html
Mark Baluk
Are you talking about the Tilta follow focus? The thing that I thought was odd with that system is that they have some kind of proprietary wiring for their digital motors, so you can't use third party motors or motor cables. They are now suppose to work with Heden Motors. If heden motors work, shouldn't they all? Not sure, but interested.
Premium Members Lars Erik Posted August 6, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 6, 2014 Yup, interested here too. According to Reduser, don't know how reliable info there is, it's now compatible with Heden and will start delivering in August... http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?115360-Checking-interest-for-TiltaMax-3-Channel-Wireless-FI-Z-System-Group-Buy/page47
Premium Members Emmanuel Dinh Posted August 7, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 7, 2014 B&H price is 2400$ for the dual channel model. As far as I know, maybe the cheapest one on the market. I am looking for an affordable system (not for intensive use, yet has to be simple and reliable) so does someone have an experience with it ? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1053803-REG/ikan_pd2_ht_remote_air_one_pd.html/prm/alsVwDtl

Premium Members Lars Erik Posted August 8, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 8, 2014 Hmm...seems to be two different systems we're talking about. The Tiltamax hasn't been released yet. The Air Two unit isn't the same at all. But the link I posted to Tiltamax, which worked a few days back, doesn't work anymore. Perhaps something has happened in the production line. It does seem strange that there is next to nothing of info out there about the unit.
Premium Members Emmanuel Dinh Posted August 9, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 9, 2014 ...Still talking about the Ikan Wireless focus (thread's title) and have found this quick review : http://ruschervisuals.com/pull-focus-wirelessly-with-the-pd1-remote-air-one/Any feedback from a STEADICAM op ? Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted August 9, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 9, 2014 Peter Hoare? Is he the "inventor" of the system? Bo, yes Peter Hoare produced the Axis 1. His system is not a rebranding of another product.
Premium Members Jonathan Pfundstein Posted August 12, 2014 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 12, 2014 I've spent the last two months looking over various reviews, for the PD movie system and it seems to be the best combination of price, features, and quality, compared with other cheap systems. It comes with a one year warranty so I hope with a year of heavy use any potential problems will show themselves, and I won't have dropped a good bit of money on a totally worthless system. As far as how it holds up past that who knows, for being my first wireless FF system, I think its a fairly safe investment for the low price. My only real decision is if the two channel is worth the extra money, I like the idea of having an extra motor for a backup, and the second channel couldn't hurt when its actually needed. Planning on placing an order tomorrow for the two chanel system with the high torque motor, if anyone has any advice on the system, speak up!
