Premium Members Thomas English Posted March 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 1, 2015 Let's face it. It's the same weight as the epic and I do steadicam jobs all the time on them. Gimbles take 20% of our work but also 50% of our competition as DoPs straight out of film school are buying Gimbles and not flyers. I'm excited about the handheld metal work, 15mm bar sets, etc etc. Arri design team are good. This camera with anamorphics and 15mm matt box will be an easy day. Looking forward to it! It may be approx. as light as the epic, but then the Alexa Mini has built in servo controls and storage media interface - not a big deal weight wise for steadicam but even more for gimbals, not even speaking about the much better ergonomics in general, symmetrical design and better COG... Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted March 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 1, 2015 This will be THE steadicam camera in the next 5 years, it has all the possibilities to become our favorite camera and the DP's of course. 4/3 sensor, shooting anamorphic with big and heavy lenses, no problem RAW, up to 30fps, feature films, no problem Pro res up to 200fps MDR build in ND filters build in Quite and not power hungry 5 lbs, body weight, add the weight you want or need, including heavy lenses, like Panavision's 19-90 or add 1 battery or 2 to power it, truly usable weight and extent the inertia the way you want it on a rail system, take the weight off and make it the lightest camera you need. Premium Members Walter F. Rodriguez Posted March 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 1, 2015 I was trying to include Jens comments in my reply. I agree, except that I think everyone will continue to use a Preston.

I agree, except that I think everyone will continue to use a Preston. The Preston is a very North American choice, the rest of the world also uses heavily other units like the Arri and Cmotion systems to name just a few of the choices available... Premium Members brett.mayfield Posted March 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 1, 2015 I love the camin/mdr integration and the advent of the daisy chained c-motion motors. ill take any excuse to use any cmotion product. the arri / cmotion union has created a terrific offspring! this will open up some great shooting opportunities and ease to swap from Steadicam to a variety of other setups, be it handheld, sticks, etc. a more consolidated build, less cables, moving parts junk. I'm Interested to see how this breaks into any broadcast market, something red had talked about but I haven't heard much of since the whispers. it looked like there were amiras all over the super bowl, maybe this'll be a player for our market. Premium Members Walter F. Rodriguez Posted March 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 1, 2015 I own a Cmotion as well as a Preston, except that I bought the black radio because I did not trust the white Arri radio after testing an Arri wireless. Sometimes a Cmotion, Preston rarely.
Premium Members Brad Hruboska Posted March 3, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 3, 2015 Well we should all be somewhat concerned. I have now seen two back to back high profile shows working with small cameras ( red carbon dragon, new show a alexa M soon to be mini when it delivers, on a Movi 15 with the klassen slingshot and the PLC veracity wheels. they have all but retired the steadicam from the show, The DOP of one show sites it as a mini techno on legs with a flight head in this set up, he himself was skeptical at the outset, but the system is now proven and working well. This is a group of three guys,DOP and both ops, who are all TOP steadicam operators and this is the thrust of their interest now. Times they are a Changing. I am also looking at which brushless gimbal technology to get into and every permutation steadi and not that I can exploit.
Premium Members Sam Naiman Posted March 25, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 25, 2015 The power pin-out will be the same as Amira. One thing less to worry about.

"I'm the perfect camera that I want you to use but Sony and Netflix won't because I'm not 4K and they won't rent me." Sad but true.

Premium Members Walter F. Rodriguez Posted May 18, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 18, 2015 I upscales 3.4k to 4k in ProRes. This looks so much better than what you get from a RED or Sony. Unfortunately you are right, Netflix won't accept it.
