Brian Stegner
I have a feeling most of the members here are pros and such, but because I see conflicting statements, out "there" (in the "real" world) regarding the Smoothee's use with an iPhone that uses a Moondog Labs anamorphic lens, I have to ask: Does the weight of the extra lens attachment preclude balancing with a stock Smoothee? And, if so, are there easily-obtained extra weights to compensate for the additional frontside weight of the extra lens attachment? Thanks a million for any actual help. Moderators Janice Arthur Posted February 4, 2016 Moderators Report Share Posted February 4, 2016 Brian First thanks for signing up and using right name, we appreciate it and it goes a long way when asking for help. Second, I don't know much about those rigs but the size of the lens I see you could counter balance the lens with a few hardware store washers velcroed in the right place and save yourself money and hassle of trying to find "factory" weights. Remember too a sharpie will make crude shiny washers black and sleek looking fast. (Used to call sharpies portable anodizers, which I thought was funny.) Try them for a dollar and see if they work. Good luck and let us know how it turned out. Janice
Brian Stegner
Thank you, Janice. I'm still assembling my kit, but your reply takes my concerns regarding the balancing issue right off the table. That's good news! And I will definitely report back here, once everything arrives and I've got it sorted out. Thanks again!
Francisco Orozco Jr
I love the Smoothee and have used it with Ollo clips etc. I have found that you can also slide the weight that is in the front of the unit up or down to find your preferred drop. Best of luck!

Brian Stegner
Francisco is right, adjust your center weight. Thanks Andre, I noticed that there was a more extensive comment from you, in my email, but on here your comment is consisting of exactly what I just "quoted." You mentioned the side-to-side issue, and that makes sense to me. The Monndog Labs unit is in a metal housing, and of course it would only be on one side of the iPhone (due to lens location), so... I see a possible "situation" regarding horizontal balance. I haven't ordered the anamorphic lens quite yet, because I'm trying to decide between ordering the directly-mounted version, or one that mounts onto my existing iPro Lens setup... I'm thinking that to minimize the challenges regarding balance, I will get the directly-mounted version of the lens, and then give it a go with the Smoothee. RobinThwaites
Hi Brian You have a side to side adjustment on the Smoothee to allow for offset weights which will certainly give you a degree of compensation. If you run out of adjustment there is nothing wrong with weighing the lens and adding an equivalent on the opposite side of the phone as long as you remember that you will need to add more bottom weight. Aim for a drop time of about a second (time taken for the rig to return to vertical from the horizontal position). Good luck and let us know how you get on.
