Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted September 14, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 14, 2007 Hi All, I've prepped a Sony F900R today and I was surprised about the frame delay. I worked with the older F900 (panavision) before and can't remember having the same issue. I've tried the internal (board) and an external (Miranda) downconverter. Same results. At least 3-5 frames delay (guess). No visible delay when using the HD-SDI output though. Is that normal? How do you guys deal with that? Thanks! Hi Jens, a gaffer friend of mine told me you were on the callsheet coming over here to Vegas this weekend to shoot. You're going to have to pay your "Vegas Tax". Actually, if you have time give me a call and let me buy you a drink or if you need anything while you're here just call me. Jens, I've operated and flown the F900, 900R and the Panavised version but have never noticed a frame delay issue coming out of the downconverter. I've used the Miranda and Evertz as well as the built-in converter. Never have gotten the AJA to work at all or at least 3 out of 3 didn't work. Maybe there is a delay and I've never noticed? Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted September 14, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 14, 2007 Hi Robert, I will do that. Frame delay is very visible on composite output analog and digital, not on HD-SDI. Jens
Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted September 14, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 14, 2007 I believe they all have a delay, some worse than others. I can't remember which downconverters are best, i.e. have the shortest delay.
Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted September 14, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 14, 2007 I also used the F900R last week and didn't conciously notice any frame delay issue (using the internal downconverter board). A 3 frame or so's delay is something that can be coped with almost unconciously whilst operating. The particular shoot in question involved lots of whip pans and fast movement, and I had no problems with frame delay that I can remember.
