Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted April 29, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 29, 2006 I looked into integrating the archives (Steadicam Forum 2000,2001,2002,2003) into the current forum/format. But it looks like a hell of a lot of work and it needs a very good clean up... before anything can be done... if it can be done. I will check with Tim... But any ideas/suggestion about that? Does it make sense or is it a waste of time? It would resurrect some old topic and threads or would it just open some old wounds? Erwin "Looking for answers" Landau Wow, what a lot of great work already done. My vote: save your strength and get the new topics and moderating up and running first... and see how it goes (for you and for the forum), fine tune topics, etc. Leave the archives as is for awhile, then you can decide (and you won't be moving topics twice). Great work and ideas so far; and I know what a drain this is on your time. One question. When things are going to be/are merged, how do we know where to go or whether or not to post anymore on that topic? Jerry

Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted April 30, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 30, 2006 Thank you everybody that replied... Thanks for the input, suggestions and encouragement... Thanks Jerry, I wanted to merge posts like the ones about the Genensis, as other posts are added the single topics are moved around to that point that nobody will look for 4 posts but only what is closest to the top. The idea would be if your remarks don't fit to that topic, that would result in a new topic with own thread. Guido, Was good to finally meet you after 5 years of forum chat... I guess as soon as Tim gets a chance to review this thread and have some time, we will see changes... I would post in the Forum support section about changing your user name, or e-mail Tim directly. I'm not savy enough to figure it out... I hope that the changes will be implemented soon... for a better Forum experience, Sincerely, The Moderator Team
Tim Tyler
I think adding sub-forums is a good idea as long as the need exists. No point in a sub-forum that has a dozen posts after a year though, so I suggest we create sub-forums that already have existing topics that can be moved there (with some exceptions, of course). I also don't want to create sub-forums that are the same as areas of the cinematography.com forum. I think creating an area where manufacturers and reps can talk about their wares without ANY fear of being silenced would be good. A place where a 'my company's gimbal is better than your company's gimbal' is actually acceptable as long as it's professional. I'll wait for an emailed list of new sub-forums from Erwin and then add them ASAP.
Premium Members Mikko Wilson Posted May 8, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 8, 2006 I have mixed feelings about a "Manufacturers" section. I guess it would be good to have a place for product anouncements etc... I jsut fear it becoming a bit of a mudslinging match. Perhaps it would need some rules of it's own? For example, one thread per company, or maybe no posting in other companies threads? just something to prevent it becoming a free-for all. I'm especially wary of spamming type activity from less reputable companies. I'd rather it didn't become e-bay is all I'm saying. Also I think that it should definatly be a section where a Sustaining Mebership is required. If we need to pay to sell, so should gear companies. Fair enough, right? - Mikko
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted May 9, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 9, 2006 IMO Manufactures can buy a banner ad. They don't need to be hosting forums....
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted May 19, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 19, 2006 Tim, Erwin,Eric, Alec, thank you for all your effort to clean up and regulate this forum and making it much more usable. I am very happy it finally came to this after some years of rumble and rubble. (and I was involved in some of that ....... ;) , though it was not my intention ) Rob
