MarceloKron
Hi guys... I know there is a lot of models now of camera stabilization systems... but I would like to get some opinions of you guys about what are the best cost/benefit system today? A system that works well witch video and film cameras, have nice components and have a low price, this exists? And you guys that have a STEADICAM system, had bought directly of Tiffen, with the prices that have in the website? Thanks all!
Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted May 18, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 18, 2006 Sorry to play a broken record... But you get what you pay for. What is your market? Where do you want to go eventually? Are you starting out? Are you upgrading? How serious are you about your future as a Steadicam Operator? How much money are you willing to spend? If you are serious about Steadicam, You will have to spend some cash... eventually. Either now or later... no exemptions. From my (personal) perspective I would go with a used (or new) PRO. They are available for a reasonable price you can piece them together as money comes a long. And you can upgrade components as you go along. Look for a Donkey Box 2, an earlier J-Box and Post, Gimbal... PRO of course... but any 1.5 inch Gimbal will fit like a 3A or similar, Battery systems... there are several available... try for one with Anton Bauer or current style batteries. Look for a LCD monitor like the Transvideo. There is a shit load of used 3A style arm out there... Vests... As I always say this item I would always buy new no matter what!!!!!!!!! PRO vest, best front mounted unit on the current market. The new Steadicam Ultra 2 vest is starting to look good too. BUT: I prefer the PRO because: You adjust it once. Ones it fits you only release 3 buckles and you are out as well as you only fasten 3 buckles and you are in... no minutes of fiddling with ratchets... every time you are up for a take. Just my opinion, Fly safe, Erwin "Opinionated" Landau
Premium Members Afton Grant Posted May 18, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 18, 2006 Sorry to play a broken record... Hey Erwin, Again, great job on the modifications to the forums. Since change is in the air, do you think it would be worthwhile to create some sort of sticky post of some sort containing the usual response to the common "which rig to buy" question? Perhaps either that, or some sort of Forum Commandments, that would describe things such as using your real names, reading old posts, observing the organization of the forum, etc. It may cut down on the repetitive post topics. Best! Afton
Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted May 18, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 18, 2006 That would go under Forum support... darn it!! Neeee... just joking. "Steadicam Guidelines" are in the works... I'm finishing right now a draft revision and will submit it soon to Tim for approval... I hope that the new Forums will make research a lot easier... Even though... you still have to use some common sense. Sticky notes... drop tim a mail and see what he thinks. MarceloKron
Hi Erwin, thanks for your quick reply. I've been operating for about 2 and a half years the Mini and now the job requesting big cameras are coming more often. Here in Brazil is kind of hard to get your hands on a steadicam, ether to rent or to buy, I?d like to purchase one steadi that will suit all types of cameras, i have some clients that work with video, but in the future I?d like to start doing some work with film cameras. I also like to ask you, if you know any place where i can find a second hand PRO and if the WhitehouseAv it's a good company and I can trust their products. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted May 19, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted May 19, 2006 Marcelo, Derek Whitehouse is a good lad and an honest bloke. Afton, I'm afraid you give us moderators more credit/power than we have. I wanted to do some stickies and guidelines, but alas we have no such power. Erwin, mail me your list as I was going to be working on it as per our discussion. Cheers,
