Pilot Gimbal

Just thought I'd share this with anyone who owns a pilot. The gimbal on the Pilot and the Solo are the exact same gimbal. I bought a Solo on ebay for like $80.

I like the handle on it so I figured wth might as well try it on the pilot. Perfect... Same exact gimbal except the handle. I just switched gimbals. And for anyone who wants to know the bearing is a 6807z which measures 35mmx47mmx7mm. These are readily available online if ever need to replace it. And if you need another gimbal just look for a used Solo.

Just thought I'd update this topic a little. I recently purchased a nice used Scout with a Flyer arm. And of course I like to clean everything and make sure all is well with the mechanics. When I first pulled the rig out of the case I noticed right away that the gimbal was "bigger". Nice!! But after taking the rig apart and getting the gimbal off and disassembling it I realized it is just the same bearing housing as the Pilot and the Solo. Difference being a larger yoke and handle and a longer sleeve to accommodate the Delrin tube. As you can see in the pics there is no difference in the bearing housing. It uses the same yoke bearings as well. Food for thought I guess.....

Forgot to mention that the Flyer LE also has the same bearing housing,Delrin sleeve and yoke bearings. Only difference being the design of the handle. Very reminiscent of the SK and IIIa models.
