PRESTON IN HIGH TEMPS trouble

Hello everyone,

Have any Preston FF (MDR-2)owners noticed any breakdown in high temperatures. I was shooting in 100 degree heat yesterday and my Preston kept losing its connection. It would not reset..the unit was hot to the touch. I would unplug the motors...let the unit sit for a minute or two then it was back to normal only to fail a minute later. I have been running the unit for 30 plus minutes in my air conditioned office right now and its running flawlessly. Any thoughts from the steadi-community will be greatly appreciated

Thank you in advance

george

I had the same kind of problem with my MDR-1 in cold weather. There was a broken connection that was temp sensitive issue. One of the inductors (I think that's what it was) when I was outside in the cold the metal would contract and break the connection. Then when it would warm up it would make the connection again. I was in Albuquerque, NM and sent it back and forth to Preston 2 or 3 times. It would get to them and work fine. Then I would get it back and it would do the same thing. Finally, I don't know how they found it but they did and fixed it and haven't had a problem since. My problem was with the hand unit transmitter. I don't know if this helps or not but take your stuff over there and hopefully they can find out what the problem is. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! I am sending all the gear into Preston tomorrow. This is actually my first failure of the Preston gear that I can remember. I have been a Preston owner for 7 years now...I feel this is an isolated incident and it will be taken care of. I will let everyone know how it goes. The gear is normally FLAWLESS and I feel they are still thee best Follow Focus around. Thanks
