Premium Members Mark Karavite Posted October 4, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 4, 2006 The search for the perfect on board continues. Has anyone tried out the Ovideon AVIAh1000? http://ovideon.com/cgi-bin/merchant2/merch...tegory_Code=PMD Any input would be helpful. Pretty spendy for a 5Gb device.right now you can get 30gb Archos AV500 for ~$350 and the 100Gb for ~$
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted October 5, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 5, 2006 I don't know this particular device but I would think that for most of us the issue is not storage space but efficiency, picture quality, easy of use, size, compatability etc. I think for me I would never need more than 1.5 hrs of storage at most (and could probably do just fine with less); a flash card based system would satisfy anyone's need for additional storage. I've been testing a unit that is reasonably promising, although since the Supacam debacle I'm loath to promote anything until thoroughly tested (this one worked fine on set until it froze for good; now waiting for a replacement). Some specs: Records over two hours on 2 gig SD card using MPEG4 640x480 at 30 fps Built in rechargeable lithium ion battery 2.5" Color LCD display USB 2.0 & A/V inputs/outputs 3.14"W X 2" H X .86D 2.68 ounces $399 No front panel controls, requires the remote to operate, but that is manageable enough. It's really, really small, and the pictures are good enough for these purposes. I'll let you guys know more when and if I deem it ready for prime time.
