Wacky shots

I'm interested in knowing some of the wacky shots you all have done.

 

Not so wacky, but I did a shot today that required booming well beyond the range of the arm. Used Steadicam for expediency. In order to boom the desired distance and maintain stability, I put a cape of doubled up Duvatene on my back, leaned against a wall, and slid down from way up high to way down low.

 

Would have been a serious killer on the thighs otherwise. Doing this handheld would have made more sense, but there wasn't time to switch over from Steadicam mode to handheld.

Cape was a good choice, but next time try Crisco. I would have said Astroglide, but I, uh, don't know what that is.

Zero time and a cramped space. This wasn't a shot where we had time to think, "Hmm...how best to accomplish this?" and coordinate the proper gear and setup. It was more that the camera was already on the Steadicam and the DP said, "You know the shot? Ok, good. Roll!" and in a panic I thought "How the F am I going to pull this off smoothly?".

 

Regarding the Astroglide, er, Crisco, I was already slathered up from a previous rendezvous, I mean, setup, but as we were shooting the reverse next I couldn't very well leave a big smear on the wall.

I did a shot on a short recently that was a single take, 6 minutes length just circling round a seance table. The entire storyline was played out at the table with some quite intense acting performances. The Steadicam shot was a constantly rotating CU, revolving around the 5 people sat at the table. Hard work to pull off, and just at the awkward height in between low mode and regular operating mode. Looked great though

I did a 20 minuts short for the dutch immigration office. This 20 minuts instruction movie has been send over to every dutch embassy in the world. the movie contents 2 people at the desk. One was the embassy employe the otherone an immigrant. If you want to immigrate to the netherlands yoy have to do a test. This movie was to introduce the new test and the use of it for the embassy's. We did it in a complete white studio. In the middle the desk with the 2 people behind it. ( across eachother ) The camera is going 380 all the time. Wide shots, 2shots and closeups. The effect is so odd, it sucks you right in the story. Very strange effect. Becose of the white backround you dont notice the 380. It was fun to do

You dutch must love going the extra distance :) Last time I checked there were 360 degrees in a circle :)
