Hi Daniel. I have purchased items from all over Europe and South Africa. They key is knowing whom you are dealing with. Is it a business? An individual? A fellow operator?

I've paid with money transfers, checks and PayPal. Paypal is by far the easiest and safest route.

Money transfers are quick but costly and final. Once the money is gone it's gone. There's also a fee on the sending and receiving end of the transaction. This method is a favorite of scamsters.

Checks take time and give someone not only your account information but also the routing # which is on the bottom of every check! The routing # is intregal to a wire transfer, among other information.

So my advice would be to know from whom you are buying: Call them, ask other ops if they know of the seller.

Agree to an inspection period or have the gear inspected by the manufacturer. I've done this and had the manufacturer alert upon a clear inspection then I would ship the payment. This works well. The manufacturer should be paid for thier time and effort. This is a good way to make the transaction.

Duties: If the seller values the gear for some nominal amount($100 or less) then you typically don't have to pay any duties

So take these bits of wisdom and go forth and prosper with used gear.
