guillermo nespolo
this is a stupid question.... people must be 18 to post a poll .....
Premium Members JimBartell Posted April 15, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2004 Hmm. If you check the member list and sort by "Join Date" and "Descending Order" there seems to be a suspiciously large number of new members signing up today (April 15) without giving their names or any information about themselves. Almost exactly the same number as votes coming down on one side of this poll. Jim "just naturally suspicious" Bartell

Premium Members Bill Powers Posted April 15, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2004 Very interesting Jim, but, notice that there are zero listed posts on all of them. I can't emagine that there would be anyone out there who would stoop so low as to try to beat the system. Nope! Couldn't fathom the idea. ;) Bill
Premium Members JimBartell Posted April 15, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2004 I know, Bill. It boggles the imagination. Also, I'm embarrassed to say I've been monitoring this on and off and immediately after a "new member" signs up and is approved the vote count increases by one on one particular side of the issue. Perhaps one of the "people" who thinks John should have to pay would like to weigh in with their opinions as to why. There seems to be no shortage of people expressing their opinions as to why not. Fred Davis
Okay, I just want to thank Mr. Byro for this thread. I haven't laughed so hard or been so jaw-droppingly SHOCKED since the alt.rec.flame and alt.religion.scientology wars on USENET in the 90's. I was particularly amused by his belittling Peter Abraham over an injury, and the passive/aggressive way he presented it as praise. Priceless....... Premium Members JimBartell Posted April 16, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 16, 2004 Steve, Since you now appear to be willing to consider releasing John's sled without requiring any additional money be paid to you, I'd like to suggest an alternative plan: Give John back his sled, let him sell it and he can decide who to give his money to and how much. This would seem to be fair since it is, in fact, his sled. I'm sure any of your own money you wish to donate to the Guild would be gladly accepted. You state that "0.00 dollars is not an option". Why not? That appears to be the amount everyone else but you feels is fair. And please don't reiterate that you "can't" do this. Of course you can, you just have so far chosen not to. There is a big difference. If you truly wish to "save face" this is absolutely your best option. Then this issue cannot be thrown in your face every time you choose to post here. I don't recall seeing anything, even in the non-existent bylaws, that indicates that Tim is supposed be a silent bystander. This is his forum, provided to everyone else at no charge (Thanks again Tim!) and he is entitled to release any information he desires concerning anything that is posted here. If you don't want him exposing the fact that you are stuffing the ballot box to support your cause by creating phony members, don't do it. I'm sure when David charges something on his American Express card, he expects to get billed and pays the bill. He has always paid any bills I've sent him on time. If, however, American Express makes him a free offer and he accepts, he doesn't expect to get billed and wouldn't pay the bill. Neither would I. Neither, I expect, would you. It is, as you say, "the same concept". Jim "whose supporters actually seem to exist" Bartell
Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted April 16, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 16, 2004 There is one more thing I'd like to say before I leave this Board (Not For Good). It was wrong of me to stuff the ballot box, I will admit that. I would also like to comment on what Jim said. I think Tim did a great disservice to his administative Title by taking sides, and he dissappointed me, not solely as an administrator, but as a Magazine Icon. How many people on this forum have several different log in names? I would expect quite a few of you because sometimes it's nice to log in with anonymity (especially for high profile operators). How many of you voted Twice against me? Three Times? We will never Know will we because Tim didn't release the Stats from the other side. This kind of "playing favorites" by our forum administator doesn't sit well with me. Steve Byro I don't think Tim took sides at all. He just reported that a bunch of new members came from the same IP at the same time. He didn't say a word about you. So to say he took sides is silly. As for your multiple voting question.... No one voted multiple times (at least not from the same login name). As you know, members can only vote once in the polls. I doubt most of the people who frequent this board have the time to create a bunch of fake email addresses so that they can fake the results of an internet poll. Oh....well.....I guess ONE member does....
Premium Members JimBartell Posted April 16, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 16, 2004 Actually I asked Tim to look into the suspicious coincidence of the "new members" suddenly appearing in perfect lockstep with the votes appearing on your side of the poll and he responded to my request. As Brad said, he didn't name you at all. I doubt Tim cared about you or this issue one way or the other. And since you have admitted that you made up eight of the ten names that were approved today (the others being David Young and camcheline, one who used his name and the other who has already posted a query), exactly what other "stats" was he supposed to report? No other names were created today (as of right now there are two others but they are waiting for approval so they couldn't have voted). Maybe if you asked him he could do an extensive search and determine how many users have multiple names. Maybe he has better things to do than chase paranoid delusions. As to the propriety of his actions Tim set up the poll function to allow users to weigh in with their opinions on a one person, one vote system. Obviously he did not want people to vote multiple times since he put a one vote lockout on the poll to keep it fair. When he discovered there was a possibility this was being violated he reported it rather than sit quietly by and let people be bamboozled by your admittedly wrong and sadly pathetic attempt to skew the result. If he discovered that this was going on and didn't say anything he would be in the wrong by tacitly lending credence to the belief of the users that the poll was accurate. In that case his credibility would be damaged. Remember, he never stated how anyone voted, only that one person was creating multiple names. It was your own guilty conscience that made you confess.
