UK import duty

Hi All,

I'm just in the process of ordering a BFD/M-one and a Film Tools jr cart from the states to be shipped over here to England... In the past I've had to pay hefty import dutys on kit and wanted to find out from any ops, esp in the UK what the best way of reducing these dutys is... Also does anyone know what codes and what kind of duty I'll be likely to pay on these bits of kit- just so I know!

Thanks in advance!

If anyone is interested or doesn't know...

I've just spoken to Customs and Excise UK and they told me if I list the kit as "Camera Parts & Accessories" with code 9006 91 00 90 then it's 3.7% duty ontop of 17.5% VAT. Not as bad as I expected!

Hey Ben,

Nice move with the Steadicam cart - I'm getting one of those this year, having almost had a heart attack at the shipping cost at first, I was worrying over the import tax as well, but 3.7% on top of the usual VAT is nowhere near as bad as I was expecting, thanks for the info!

Hi,

Rick ya bugger, you outted my small cart making business..... I do make a few Magliner esq carts with Steadi spiogots and accessory boxes, tripod holders etc. I am in the middle of converting the carts to all pneumatics at the moment whilst still retaining the fold up mechanism, so hence have not advertised them on this site properly.

Anyway, anyone interested drop me a line

Best

I am going to get a second magliner in from the states. there are a few options

we could all club together and order them by sea freight and share the shipping

we go to panavision stores order at the same time and fill one of their containers that are coming over with our carts

we buy jamies

with regards to tax, you often end up paying 6% import duty and 17.5% tax and there s no way out. But you can claim all your vat back for 3 years if you go registered

Surely theres only one option guys.....

Buy mine, buy mine...( like donkey on the shrek dvd)

I won't be offended if you guys opt to pay over inflated prices on shipping, duty etc...

Hope yous all be well ya hear

Hi Thomas

I keep seeing the video you were shooting in that park off the Commercial Road with the two dancers,

Looks very nice. Unfortunately I never get to hear the track or see who it is. Can you post a link or something to it please ?
