Premium Members Kyle Fasanella Posted January 29, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 29, 2008 Looking for help on buying wireless XLR setup with Phantom Power. Hey guys, I am looking for a wireless setup to replace an XLR cable that goes from my Sony Z1U to mic w/ boom pole. This transmitter needs phantom power. It be perfect if it had a headphone jack. The boom operator needs to be able to monitor the sound and transmit to the Z1U. I am looking to spend as little as possible without losing too much. What specific equipment should I be looking at? What else should I be looking for in a wireless setup? What?s a good place to buy this equipment? EBay? Anyone selling?
Premium Members Kevin Krautle Posted January 30, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 30, 2008 Well probably the best way is for you boom op to use a portable mixer like the the sound devices MixPre or something a little cheaper that delivers voltage and monitoring capabilities. After the mixer any good wireless transmitter will work fine. Lectrosonics is at the top, but the Sennheniser Evolution G2 100 Series I have had great results with, but with any wireless... It does take testing, but I do wish you luck! -Kevin "Still have pains thinking about the PD150's sound quality" Krautle
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted January 30, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 30, 2008 Hi Kevin, I have a Micron radio mic system that does what you ask; it's just a question of ordering a special cable. Ask a soundo for advice. This is pretty standard equipment for them. All the best, Chris

If your willing to sell it, why are you selling it.
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted January 31, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 31, 2008 Hi Kyle, I'm not selling it, and it was expensive. But it's a piece of kit I use every day. No sound recordist has ever questioned using it to send from mixer to camera after they give it a good listen (though some make a backup recording). Don't forget, you'll have to be capable of monitoring sound yourself to check for interference, unless you buy another channel for return. Best, Chris
