Tom Schnaidt
I have recently purchased the HD Ultrabrite monitor with my rig and have been using a native 16:9 camera with it. (Ikegami HLDV-7W) I have been uanble to get into the 16:9 mode on the monitor. I am curious if anybody else has this monitor and may be able to shed some light on this. It seems very particular to the 16:9 mode because I have no problem with 4:3, 2:35, but just cant seem to figure out the 16:9...Thanks for your help. Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted June 23, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 23, 2004 Tom- There's no setting for native 16x9, but if you go into the "non-linear scaling mode" and play with the horizontal and vertical clipping, you can make a circle look like a circle on the screen -I did this with a PAL camera at CineGear just for fun. Call Tiffen LA 310 645-4568 if you have other questions about the HD UltraBrite. Jerry
Tom Schnaidt
hey Jerry- thanks for your response. I will surely give this a shot. Though I was under the impression from the manual as well as the promo spec sheet that 16:9 was a format supported by the HDU? Hmmmm. Thanks again for the input. tom
Premium Members Ari Gertler Posted June 24, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 24, 2004 Tom, Great to hear that you made the jump and have your own gear. As to the 16:9, I often keep my monitor as a 3:4 when I shoot ( more with anamorphic) in order to be able to have more image on my screen (which also lets me be able to see the boom mic better in case it comes close to poping into frame). I hope all is well and be sure to let me know when you come into LA. Ari Gertler
Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted June 24, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 24, 2004 Tom- I just went through the exercise with my HD Ultrabrite. In the non-linear scaling mode, set the vertical clipping to -95 to -100 (max) and leave the others at zero. As this setting will remain in memory, just use it when you are shooting 16x9. Note: I set my little Sony PC-3 camera to 16x9 and sent that signal to the monitor via an S-VHS cable; it may differ slightly from your 16x9 signal.... but I did it at CineGear with a comparable PAL camera; same process. Let us know. Jerry
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted June 25, 2004 Moderators Report Share Posted June 25, 2004 Tom, Welcome to the club. Funny running into you on the steps that day (two different shoots; one location). Give me a call the next time you are in NYC. Cheers, Alec
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted June 26, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 26, 2004 Right, so you have been sold a High Definition monitor with a preset build in 2:35 frame-mode but not a NATIVE VIDEO FORMAT that is with the HD! Sorry, that doesn´t make sense to me! No matter what Tiffen of Jerry says, if you sell HD gear it must be also 16:9 as that is what the HD chips are!!! Period! No excuse for work-around solutions in my opinion, not for that price! Rob van Gelder
