Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted April 14, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2008 nope, but would love to hear more. It isnt diversity i guess? Is it ntsc only? Pal ? Costs ? Etcetc I'll be meeting with Emery to see the unit Tuesday at NAB. Since the CanaTrans has a Global option now, my guess and it's only a guess is that "Tandem" refers to NTSC and PAL but that is just a guess. As soon as I see it I'll post here. Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted April 17, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 17, 2008 I'd say $3495, if in fact that is the price is out of my interests and range. I also thought that $4k plus for the CanaTrans transmitter was high but when my $700 model failed twice (the mfr replaced it both times with a new one) I forked over the money for a CanaTrans. Nice kit but pricey.
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted April 18, 2008 Moderators Report Share Posted April 18, 2008 I don't think Emery has officially set a price; he is trying to make it as low as possible. When I first looked at it, he was still trying to figure it out (they won't be shipping for a few more weeks). When I later went by the booth with Erwin and Eric, Emery had left for the day and it was a Birns & Sawer employee that told us it was $3495. My Canatrans has performed amazingly well and is built like a tank. The receiver is of the same quality (looks more or less just like it, but a bit bigger and has an optional bay for a Sony M-style camcorder battery). Sadly, I did not get to see it in action, but I suspect it will be great. My huge concern is buying anything in the standard def world for that kind of money. I suspect we will get a lot more open channels come next year when they stop standard def TV transmissions, but I will be rather upset if my $10K plus of transmitters/receivers become paper weights.
