Erwin, you hadn't come across the legendary $14 stabilizer before?!

Make sure to read the "Advanced Steadycam Discussion" FAQ linked in the middle there where Johnny says the following:

"This magical "gimbal" has some weird religious following that I simply don?t understand... A gimbal is not critical to the existence of a steadycam and I personally dislike them."

Hi guys;

I have to give the guy A for effort. He is trying really hard to explain everything and save people money and impart his knowledge. He knows what he knows.

(I wish my web site were that detailed.)

In his world, it is a fortune to pay $1500 for a "professional" Steadicam.

This guy makes the internet great.

On a side note;

I have a new term "WAM" (walking around money).

. . . as you walk out the door you check your WAM.

Love the forum.

JA

Hey...talk about a "religious" concern, this guy should read up on how many of us used to say that little prayer while our early model Steadicam® monitors were warming up.

I remember preheating my Model 2 monitor and hoping it would strike and stay lit!

I also remember the day it died right after the director yelled "Cut! Great! Print!" and then everyone else went to lunch while I built up my back up sled.

It is too bad he "fears' gimbals. They would be a great addition to the black iron pipe post material he recommends. All that inertia from just some Home Cheapo pipe and fittings!

I wonder what he recommends for rust proofing his pipe? Ron Baldwin, any guesses?

I was on board, poo pooing with everyone else until just this morning. I came across this clip of the same guy giving a presentation of some more very simple inventions. It not only demonstrates that the guy is near genius, but it shows that his intentions are to use his smarts for the benefit of everyone else. Doesn't totally explain why he thinks the gimbal is magical, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. He's got my respect.
