Purchasing Transmitter and receiver

Ok my current plan is to purchase a

 

Transmitter

Gx-68D $299

AM I going wrong with this purchase? besides taking the Cheap route?

Can I get these without an antenna and get clear video? Or is it crucial that I get an antenna?

I love to hear any other advice.

I have the feeling that you don't know much about transmitters....

Anyway, antenna's are vital for the function, a transmitter without (tuned) antenna will destroy itself because it cannot get rid of the generated power.

 

and the antenna for the receiver is vital because it is the pickup-element and needs to be selected to the appropriate frequencies.

 

High power in a transmitter is in general not as important as a good and sensitive antenna on the receiver.

High power will give often more unwanted reflections and in general the distance between the 2 antenna's will not be very great, I think a 200 ft is max. for most shots

 

i have no idea how these units work, but i have seen cheaper boxes that did the job, so i expect they are probably similar or better in performance.

Hi Kyle, the RF -links stuff is okay and they stand behind it very well. I got my nine channel through Mike Wilder at Image Gear for $700 or so +/-. On the other hand, it did fail on me two times and they promptly replaced it two times; once even overnight before I sent the other one back.

 

After the second failure I decided to step up to a CanaTrans. I had standing orders for about a year on two Modulus 4000's that never materialized so I bit that big fat CanaTrans bullet. The quality is obvious but I dare say the image quality is visibly much better than the RF-links. Now the Rf-links is my backup transmitter and currently it is out on loan somewhere around the world with Rob Vuona.

 

If you're watching your funds, don't use video assist much or just starting out RF-links should be okay for now. You could buy a dozen for what the CanaTrans cost.

I think you better ask again about that price.., the 'old' GX-68(H) are 1995 / 2495 us dollars so that mentioned price of 299

couldn't be possible !

I just received a email from Steve from RF, this just to ask about a PAL version. They mentioned the 'D' is not PAL, but the pdf file

say's it is both PAL / NTSC... :blink:

 

For that amount of money i would consider the Canatrans...
