Premium Members Niko lasarte Posted May 10, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 10, 2008 Hi everybody! It´s my first post in steadicam forum. I´ve EFP rig, I think is a very good equipment to work in tv or others video works. I´m upgrade my rig and I bought a pro arm, it isn´t here yet and I´ve a doubt. It´s fully compatible the socket pro arm with my socket best? I heared that is possible it doesn´t fit correctly. Some body can said me if I´ll have any problems? Thanks everybody Niko
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted May 10, 2008 Moderators Report Share Posted May 10, 2008 Niko, It should fit fine. Key word here is "should." I've heard of an occasional stuck arm in vest before because the tolerances were too tight, but it is very rare. Don't worry about it until (if) you have a problem! Enjoy the new arm - you will love it.
Premium Members Niko lasarte Posted May 12, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 12, 2008 Thanks Alec! I´ll check in a few days. Me too I think I will love it. I know this arm and I think is very good and safe. Thank you again Niko
Premium Members Jon Myers Posted May 12, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 12, 2008 The only problem that might happen, is the male part of the socket block (on the arm) at the bottom has a radius to it. Some older vests don't have this radius. I have a Walter Klassen vehicle mount that I had to take a file to on set and round the edges on the female part. It's pretty easy to do this. Good luck. Premium Members Mike McGowan SOC Posted May 12, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 12, 2008 I had the same issue with my WK vehicle mount. He actually replaced the block with the new one free of charge.
Premium Members Chris Flurry Posted May 13, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2008 I had a Similar Problem with my PRO vest when I took the workshop at lake arrowhead this spring. The G-70 arm would not fit in the socket Block on my Pro vest. I should correct myself, it would fit in the vest but would not come out. The tolerances were too tight. Swapped out the socket Block on the vest for a Tiffen one and everything worked fine. I received My PRO Arm from GPI a few weeks later and (no suprise) it worked fine with the PRO socket block. There does seem to be some slight size difference there. I was apparently not the first person to have this problem. I don't know the specifics of the EFP vest but, but I would think you could swap out the Socket Block for one from PRO if you have a problem. Congrats on your arm Purchase, I know you will love it. Premium Members Niko lasarte Posted May 13, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2008 Im seeing its probably have some problem with socket´s fit. Im thinking is better do an effort and acquire a pro vest. That will save problems. Thanks every body for your comments. Niko
Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted May 13, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2008 It was discussed in the past but once again: The PRO Arm Socket as well as the Vest Socket Block are under size. That means That the PRO Arm will fit in almost all Vests on the market. If you buy the PRO Vest most likely only the PRO Arm Socket will fit perfectly. There where problems in the past with Tiffen and CP arms that needed serious help (Hammer) to separate from the Socket Block. As well as the Steadyrig arm and a Glidecam Gold arm that needed machining intervention. All the Klassen Vests take the PRO arm no problem... All accounts about matting problems were with the early versions, including the Hardmount. If you are not sure when buying the PRO Arm also spring for a Vest (Female) Socket Block for front mount... Hope that helps, Erwin
