Dionics 90's Long term review

I have been using the Anton Bauer Dionics 90 on my Pro Sled for 4 years.

The results have been very good and I have found that the batteries have lasted far longer than I had anticipated.

When I switched to the Dionics I assumed that the new batteries would be a costly alternative to both NiCad and NiMh but could be justified by the low weight and the high performance. I was wrong. At about $400 each these batteries are a very good value. 5 of the original 7 batteries I bought are still in use and show no sign of going bad at all. After 2 years, 2 of the batteries simply failed with no warning. I have bought 3 more and now have 8 batteries working.

The biggest problem has been that at 1.7lbs each, these batteries don't weigh enough to balance out my sled with a 35mm sound camera and an LCD monitor. I solved that problem by adding a 4.5lb chunk of brass to the front of my sled in between the battery and the mounting plate. The sled now will balance very nicely.

I know these batteries are expected to last far fewer cycles than other chemistry batteries but I have found that they last so long between charging cycles they actually beat the other batteries in longevity.

I have not used these batteries with HD cameras at all, only film cameras. Plenty of high speed, lots of added accessories like the Preston LED light and so on. Never an issue with power at all.

Great product.
