I had my DM-1X (P#4203) for four weeks now the first in the field... (Serial #3002), I happend to be minutes away from Preston when they called, I beat David Emmerichs by about an hour, (he got #3003).

It's almost as tall as the DM-1 but has the round shape like the DM-2.

Size (mm):

DM-1X : 117x54x31

DM-1 : 122x75x33

DM-2 : 100x50x28

It's fast!!! 4 revolutions per sec. To compare... for the time it took the DM-2 to calibrate the Iris (On a Cooke S-4) the DM-1X did the Focus and they stopped almost at the same time... and it got some grunt going, twice the power of the DM-1.

Weight wise the specs tell 415 grams for both versions of the DM-1 versus 290 grams for the DM-2. But in hand, the X feels lighter... maybe it's just me...

For all you PAM users. The Rosetta from the DM-2 is just to short to fit into the motor, the one for the DM-1 is to long... it sticks out about 2mm on each side... I'm using a DM-1 rosetta right now, but it's not ideal with all that might this puppy puts out... I was told it's in the works.

Other differences: The lemo connector key way, is starting with this motor, facing up (towards the gear). That was per request of many non steadicam customers. If you use right angle motor cable on both sides and use the Arricam LT and mount the motors from the top, you will get a nasty surprise... the cable is to short... I got my keyway inverted... now all is fine.

Then the Out put gear is free spinning, not like the older ones where you could not move the gear... at any circumstances unless you employed a hammer that is... (hey I have seen AC's put a hammer to a lens once... actually twice... never to my motors... though)

Also the greater speed and power comes with a price: $3250.- plus $62.- for the bigger out put gear. Versus the $2885.- the DM-1 and the DM-2 go for these days.

I love mine, considering that I was bugging Howard for 2 years for it, I didn't expect anything else!

So much for now...
