Please Help My Problem...

Fadi Sara

Recommended Posts

hello, my name is fadi and i have been using the STEADICAM flyer at school now for about, a month or so, and i have been running into a problem with the vest while operating, that my instructor stated he has only seen happen to me. While operating the flyer system, the center pin becomes loose, releases, and drops the system (the velcrowe belt, socket-block, arm, etc) one hole down, causing a sudden jolt, and shifting the weight of the whole system down. this has only happened to me about 3 times, and just today i managed to catch it before it happened.

now, the top buckle near the shoulder-strap is fine, thats unadjustable.

the lower buckles are set at their reccomendation, tight-yet-breatheable.

and the velcrowe strap might be the reason..

i know it is reccomended that i have no fashion belt on while operating because it will dig in and cause pain, and i adhere to that.

next, i understand that the belt should be half below and half above your hip bone to help compensate for the weight, but i always keep the TOP OF THE STRAP at my hipbone level. this is due to the fact that if i have it half above and half below, the portion of the strap near my back and buttocks will start riding up my shirt and pants, and that will instantly give me a pain in my lower back, and cause the whole vest system to become loose uncomfortable.

i think i may understand why it is happening, but if anyone has encountered this problem before, please let me know. it is slowing down the rate at which i want to learn to use STEADICAM.

Hello Fadi

Check that the screws on the back of the assembly are tight, also it sounds as if the spring on the pin may have lost it's strength - I have not heard of either of these before.

Robin

everything is tight on it.

its not a personal steadicam, its school equipment, and i'm the only one this is happening to.

i geuss it might be the way i have it adjusted.

alright i think i may have discovered my issue!

although i have not tested it yet, i am pretty sure this is it.

as stated before, i do not wear the belt to be half above and half below my waist, because the back side of the belt starts to ride up my posterior and thus, throwing the whole weight of the system forward.

i wear the belt so that the top of the belt is at my hip bone.

i think that me having the top of the belt at my hip bone is the problem.

i will post pictures later about it, and you can tell me if you think it is the problem.
