for some unknown reason I found this in my mailbox, a "solution" to make Steadicam easier ....

Not sure why this guy needs it, he is big and strong and the camera is an SR3....

There are more videos on youtube, search for edcamuniversal

Actually I think it is a great idea and one that I've been thinking about of late. There's no operational advantage to our bodies bearing the weight (as we know from hard-mounting) so it's a "problem" that bears solving. A simple exo-skeletal setup that assumes at least part of the load makes perfect sense. The trick would obviously be to find a way for it to look less leg-bracey/Forrest Gump-esque, and certainly it would have to be able to articulate with all of the leg and hip joints so that it didn't restrict one's movement. I wish the video were a bit clearer so I could see what these guys were up to.

You never know, maybe some people are into that sort of thing ;-) In all seriousness I think that is the least of the problems with such a setup, although I definitely think there is some promise in the idea.

Check out the video on this page: http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/25/sarcos-...tening-reality/

Something like this integrated with a vest could be promising: http://machinedesign.com/ContentItem/59305...htechlegup.aspx

There was another video of a much simpler lighter weight version floating around not too long ago.
