Steadicam Flyer

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, I got a question relating to the Steadicam pricing I hope one of you will be able to answer and first here is a little background of my situation. I will be traveling to France soon on business from Australia with a stop over in Singapore to purchase 2x Sony HDR-FX1000

as Singapore is the cheapest location for these high quality cameras, the idea is to purchase 2 and travel to France to drop one off and the same to Australia with the other camera when I head back here, The thing is that I need to also purchase 2x full Steadicam systems, hopefully the Steadicam Flyer-LE and I was wondering how much do these normally retail for, where is the cheapest country to purchase theme systems from and lastly, will the Steadicam Flyer-LE support the Sony HDR-FX1000 ? Or do you recommend a different Steadicam rig i should be looking into?

Greatly Appreciated,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Excellent questions and complex to answer. I would say that it depends on what country you live in, what countries you are traveling to where you need to lay your hands on a Flyer LE or two, what the exchange rates are internationally, etc.

I live in the United States, and so can address costs here. Our Steadicam Flyer LE with a standard definition monitor is list priced at $ 7,995.00. Our extensive dealer network sells below list on items like the Flyer LE.

I will send this thread link to my colleagues in the United Kingdom, who can address pricing over there.

Sounds like a great shoot, enjoy it !

We will be spending a bit of money on the cameras itself and really don;y want to be pushed back even further money wise because of the steadicam price. maybe a Steadicam Pilot which I saw Peter Garret giving a demonstration on would be sufficient and be within a good price range which is not too expensive? If it is in the U.K, Would be even better because we can just send someone from France to pick two up and just have the other waiting for me in France when I take the camera there and take the cam and our steadicam to Australia.

I thought that was Leif Garrett.....

Seriously. We can find you a Dealer worldwide who can help you get into a Pilot or Flyer. Let me know where you think you'd want to get it, and I will put you on with the right people. I am sending this link to Robin Thwaites who is my counterpart in the U.K. He may well be your man !

Best,

Hi Michael

The answer regarding the price is that the price is pretty much the same everywhere plus what it costs to freight it from the the US and any local duty. All of the EU pays the same duty so with freight expect to spend around 10% more this side of the pond (France, England, all the same). Of course what the banks take for the currency exchange may be a whole different thing so decide how you are going to pay first.

If you are buying in France the very best person to contact is Regis Prosper and Cartoni France www.cartonifrance.com .

Hello Robin,

Thanks for this

Clearly, the right rig for the camera is the Pilot.

Good news: it's about 50% of the Flyer's price.

I have some in stock and will be glad to make you a great price for 2 units.

Got the inventors name mixed up ;) but anywho, Garret Brown did really have a nice demonstration of the Pilot and it was just amazing.

Hi Regis, That would be great to get the Pilot a little cheaper. I will give your details to our business partner in France and work from there, Where exactly in France are you? Our partner resides in St Tropez.

Michael, in Australia give Scott Backhouse a call at Lemac Sydney.

From memory he has a Flyer LE and or a Pilot in the showroom in Sydney ready to be sold.

Just remember the shipping costs will be the big thing for you. Excess baggage on international flights with a large Flyer box will be rather huge. Hense if you are going to do that the Pilot may be better for you. Probably better off buying one from France for France and the same in Australia.
