Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted April 15, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2009 I just wanted to report that Innerspace Cases here in LA did a great job for me modifying a case. They added wheels and and made it lockable for a very reasonable price and super fast (2 day turnaround) and it wasn't even one of their cases to begin with. Great job! contact: Innerspace Cases Carlos (818)767-3030 Innerspace
Premium Members Mike McGowan SOC Posted April 15, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2009 I agree. I've asked them to make some cases with almost no time and they always come through.
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted April 15, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2009 I've said it here before but this is a good opportunity to say it again. Louis and his guys do a great job and are always happy to take the time to work on custom designs. And to echo what Jens said, you don't have to start with a ground-up case, you can bring them whatever and they will foam it or build a tray etc. My cases are a mix between wood and injection molded plastic (i.e. Storm) and all have been "done over" by Innerspace, with the result that I am far more organized and actually have found a lot more room for things than the old cases jammed full of stuff. I just had a rush order also and Louis turned it around in 3 days and the case looks fantastic. Also as an FYI, they are selling off their one-off inventory at fire-sale prices, check out customcasesforfree.com.
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted April 16, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 16, 2009 My one and only experience with Innerspace and Carlos out right sucked to be frank about it. I must have been in there on a bad day even though I had made an appointment to discuss my custom Steadicam case / cart designs; the guy was anything but interested, the place was disheveled and he never followed up with a quote. I'm sure a $2800 case order is small potatoes but the guys at A&S Case treated me like gold. You guys must be on the Steadicam Royalty Roster because what the three of you are reporting is 180 degs opposite of my experience and they'll never get another chance to make another first impression with me or my money. Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted April 17, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 17, 2009 Robert, I had both, very good experiences as well as very poor ones. I guess it depends on there work load and the day you come in. Usually they are good if you make an appointment and show up with very concrete ideas and detailed sketches or even better drawings... and can leave the equipment for a couple of days. In some instances I had it made over night. And very nicely made at that. I had an instance where I had to keep coming back with a case over and over again and at one point had to build a 1:1 scale model from foam board... The guys are no engineers and have not really a gasp at what they are building, at least it seams that way sometimes. Sorry you had a bad experience. But you found an alternative that worked even better for you.
