Mikael Kern
2 different RED cameras on Ultra2 sled. After hours of takes with no (technical) problems the screen suddenly goes black - no signal. 3-4 seconds later picture is back, but moments later it happens again. My first thought and my 1st´s thought too was bad BNC cable. Low battery on the Red was another suggestion. Cables and batteries changed, problem solved... then 30 min. later it goes blackout again. Because I was using my brain and sweat with keeping the frame till I got the picture back or someone would shout cut - it took some time before I started thinking clearly again. This happened one day indoor doing human dolly stuff and another day exterior doing very slow walk and talk - no wind or anything else that could make the cables move at all. In a quiet room we noticed a tiny clicking from the Red camera as the went and came back. Also I recall that today the picture was lost and came back repeatedly with the same intervals 3-4 times. So now I am thinking that somehow Red is overloaded or too busy with other things and that the HD-SDI output is not stable? Any experience or thoughts? Premium Members Anders Holck Petersen Posted June 22, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 22, 2009 Hi Michael. Don't know if this will help you, but I have been using my Ultra2 and RED One's for over a year now without any issues whatsoever. Did you also experience this the other day when you shot with one our RED bodies? (Phone booth etc.) Best Regards Anders Holck

Premium Members Philip J. Martinez SOC Posted June 23, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 23, 2009 Hi Guys, I just had a problem with my Steadicam Clipper 24 and a RED ONE build “17”. My run/stop from my bartech kicked the RED into 1 frame time-laps mode, AC had to go into menu to put it back to normal (tried 3 times same thing happened). My Sled fuse blew. I was powering the RED, AJA Box, 2 Bartech, SD video transmitters, and a digital level. I sent my sled into Tiffen for a check up and everything is fine with the sled. I have used Build “16” about 6 times with this set up and everything worked fine. I wonder it there is something up with Build “17”? Sorry I have no answers just more questions. Premium Members Alfeo Dixon SOC Posted June 23, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 23, 2009 Mikael, You might be having a backlight issue in the ultrabright. I had this happen to me a couple of months ago. See if Robin with Tiffen UK can get you a loaner monitor and then send it in to have it checked. Robert Orf should be familiar if it's the same issue I had. -Alfeo
Mikael Kern
> Did you also experience this the other day when you shot with one our RED bodies? (Phone booth etc.) Yes that was the camera. We were in a quiet doorway in a hotel when I heard the clicking. Soundman heard it too. This was interior with only 2x2 Kino - very low light. Yesterday was with the Red from PictureWise. Ext. in the sun for 2 hours. Alfeo -What kind of backlight issue - can you explain? - Mikael Kern

Premium Members Peter Milanov Posted August 20, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 20, 2009 Hi Mikael, had the same issue with my Ultra2. In my case it was the internal cables in the ultrabright monitor that had to be replaced or shortened. It´s a known issue with these monitors and Hofmann here in Sweden took care of it for me. RobinThwaites
Hi Mikael Please e-mail me the software version of your monitor and serial number, the software version should come up on either your boot screen or menu screen. Please sent direct to my email robin.thwaites@tiffen.com and not via this forum as I am in Beijing for the next week and a bit and I am not sure what internet I can get.
