looking for Mini DVR

The first one you linked to is 320x240, pretty low-res.

 

There are others out there that are smaller and some that achieve 720x480, all MPEG-4, and all require cycling through annoying menus to move from record to play. Look through Supercircuits.com and pimall.com for some good examples.

 

Many people use the Archos as the build quality and interface is cleaner.

 

There is no "too good to be true" solution out there at the moment...I've been talking to one company that is building such a thing (and it will manage HD as well as SD!) but until they get further along with it, it's still vaporware (legitimate company though, which is good).

 

Everything depends on one's personal preferences. I know a bunch of folks who swear by their particular DVR's but the next guy (such as me) might not be impressed.

Unfortunately there is no ther info available directly but it looks interesting and possibly relatively inexpensive. Here are the unit's specs.

 

The DVR-301A is perfectly suited to under cover filming and

sports both a 30GB hard disk AND an SD slot for solid state

recording. You can choose to record direct to hard disk or when

conditions get tough switch to solid state memory SD card for

uninterupted recording. You can record to SD card then transfer

the files to the hard disk for longer record times. The DVR-301A

also has a 5v and a 12v power output to send power to the

camera so you don't need to carry an extra power pack or set of

batteries. Record resolution is 640 x 480 pixels at 30fps PAL or

30fps NTSC. Or 720 x 480 25fps

 

This device records in standard MP4 format. AVI files which can

easily be dragged in to your video editing software and then put

on the DVD or VCD.
