Just wanted to share my elation with picking up a complete EFP rig that looks like it's been in a time capsule since it's in such great shape. Apparently owned by the U.S. Navy and never used. Maybe pro for that. According to the guy I bought the efp from, the Navy had purchased two EFP rigs new around 1990 for the purpose of attaining only the arms. They were supposedly trying to stabilize something on a ship using the two arms. Sounds sci-fi to me. Like that tv series someone posted here a while back where there were two pro arms holding a case in suspension. All of the branches do make their own videos, Training, documentary, etc. and the DOD has two cable networks... What you would find at the typical basic cable network you will also find within the DOD. Merlins have even found their way into combat zones. The Air Force sent a guy who attended the class with a EFP. All I remember about him is he wore sandles to class everyday and Peter wanted to crush his toes...... I just thought that steadicam was not such a big thing for the Navy or Defence organiztion in the first place but I guess I was wrong. Thanks for enlightening me. You learn something everyday. :) Keven the Steadirig is a good choice. I love the way the base looks. I would have loved the Steadirig base but unfortunately it is a little above my budget. Take some pics of the complete mod after its done. I have not seen an EFP mod with this conversion so it would nice to see the outcome. They had just received a pristine, fully stock model 2 that looked like it had never been used at all -- from one of the armed forces. I remember looking at it and drooling...and the CP salesman of the time commenting what a pos it was. What a numbskull, he knew what I was flying. The document discussd how they used it to stabilize shots when filming from one craft to another, I believe. I have a friend who works for the National Guard (he's a civilian but many of the folks he works with are active duty Army). They do a lot of recruitment/PR videos and they just took delivery on an Archer2. You may also be aware that GB has teamed up with someone to market modified Steadicam arms to industry, to provide lift assistance to people who have to carry heavy loads or operate equipment at arms-length for extended periods of time. -Kevin "takes the cake for weirdest circumstances to buy a rig" Andrews That's kinda going a little far Ha, you're probably right.
