Moderators Janice Arthur Posted July 10, 2009 Moderators Report Share Posted July 10, 2009 Hi all; Just to add to the stories. Guy I knew called me with a "what do I do with this thing?" question. He bought a film camera from the Army and when it arrived a Steadicam came with it! (Probably a few grand for the purchase.) They didn't know what it was and just thought it was part of the camera, so they included it. It was a Model 1 or 2 Steadicam. Probably early 90's, it wasn't completely state of the art at the time but it worked and all the parts were there. That's the best one I've ever heard. Never heard what he did with it. Premium Members Emre Tufekci Posted July 14, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 14, 2009 I work for the Navy (Civilian) and I Purchased a steadicam here as well as my last 2 commands, Army and the Airforce. After we get the units I train the people and they have all been putting a lot of miles on the rigs. We pretty much use the steadicam for everything, It's in use at least 90% of all the shoot we do. For the government it's a great return invesment since there is so much demand. Since I work for the government we are able to assist each other from other commands as well, a good freind of mine works for another agency and has an Ultra 2. Whenever we have a shoot but cannot use our rig because it's tied up, he comes down to OP with his rig.

Premium Members Michael Wilson Posted July 26, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 26, 2009 Hi all. Just wanted to share my elation with picking up a complete EFP rig that looks like it's been in a time capsule since it's in such great shape. Apparently owned by the U.S. Navy and never used. Updating it with Steadyrig and Mk-V parts. How did you find out the Navy was selling an EFP?
Premium Members Sydney Seeber Posted July 26, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 26, 2009 How did you find out the Navy was selling an EFP? This is the program used DOD equipment is supposed to go through https://www.drms.dla.mil/rtd03/index.shtml You can even request equipment if you qualify. The primary site there is for DOD, I put that there just in case you wanted to know what it was, here's the public search site https://www.drms.dla.mil/asset/pubalpa.html Anyone can bid on stuff. I found a few cameras, but nothing steadi-related. Equipment's supposed to go through that program, but not everything does... There's this thing called the Filipino Mafia... No, not the real mafia, but as related to the DOD... (I definitely did not make that up)
