I haven't received the official contract yet, but there's one sticking point that's really making me stop and wonder which is.....they do not want to insure my gear. They claim this is standard practice for a show and event of this magnitude, and all vendors who are supplying gear are subject to this same policy. I'm very interested to hear any experiences or knowledge from those who've been involved with the games as part of the OBS crew in the past. If the refuse, you should let it go. No need to take such high risk for THEM. Just say no. And i wish everybody had the nuts to do so. It would make our world so much better. I find it hard to believe that they are not insuring any of the gear they are getting from the bigger rental houses (multiple truck-loads of camera/grip/electrical equip). If they are renting your rig, are they planning on others using it? If so I would be more than a little nervous about not having insurance. Given the days and the dough, if I was the only one using it, I would most likely take the deal. There's a hell of a lot of money to be made here and my personal insurance would be fine. Having nuts won't pay the mortgage for the next 6 months, but this rental would! May take my vest but don't expect to be compensated for it. The Olympics are a huge production but that doesn't mean they are top notch and have a huge budget, they are saying yes to the lowest bidder. I have never worked for the World Feed, just NBC and they have always been fair and upfront, on the other hand the World Feed has always been , reportedly, unfair and never upfront. Have a talk with the director you are working with and tell him to make it happen and that usually speeds up the red tape. Hope to see you there Hey Wilson, you going? Service Provider Agreement - Individual 4.6 It is explicitly agreed that BOB shall not be responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged Broadcasting Equipment or spare parts and that it is Service Provider's responsibility and at its own expenses to insure the Broadcasting Equipment to be leased to BOB. For the avoidance of doubt, it is clarified that Service Provider shall bear one hundred percent (100%) of all the risk of any financial loss due to any loss of or damage to or destruction of any items of Equipment and spare to be leased by Service Provider hereunder and that BOB shall bear no financial risk whatsoever (zero percent (0%)) of loss due to loss, damage, or destruction of any items of the said items howsoever arising and due to whatever reason. I'm sure they are all worded much the same. As for asking for more bucks, BOB made an offer that wasn't negotiable...take it or leave it. Speaking as the Peter Abraham impersonator at the Olympics in Atlanta.... (Long story ask Peter.. I did soccer finals in Athens) They made us use supplied rigs . Premium Members Norbert von der Heidt Posted August 4, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 4, 2009 Hi guys I realize I'm not in shooting in the big leagues (where the hell is Cairns???) and my gear is old (mid '90s Master Broadcast) and already paid for, but I had worldwide 24/7 insurance for my travelling production kit already anyway (isn't that normal for everyone?), which costs me only about $1,900AUD a year for whatever, wherever coverage. So I wasn't bothered by the fact BOB didn't supply any cover and let that little issue stop me from being a part of a great international event. Just my 2 cents. Don't your rates go up if you claim it? And that's just one tiny example that could easily be repeated countless times. I know this stuff happens all the time, especially in an insanely crowded environment like the Olympics... I can understand if one were to use gear they didn't own, but...
