Shooting the Olympics for OBS

Boy, times have changed...I worked for 35 days in the Lillihammer games in 94' and 40 days in Nagano 98'. Not only was there insurance, but I brought my focus puller with me and he was able to get a rental on my wireless focus unit to get more then scale. Did I mention that we flew 1st class... CBS was a class act to work for, they still are. Then came NBC/Atlanta. They asked, wouldn't pay what I asked for and I said no thank you. End of story.

Hi Guys

Well, as can be seen from some of the other posts, there is a big difference between working for the national Olympic broadcaster (CBS, NBC, etc.) who is providing facilities and crew for specific venue (as per their broadcast agreement with OBS) and working for the 2010 Host Broadcaster (in this case OBSV) who is basically just a big co-ordinator for all things broadcast for all countries. Anyone hired directly by OBSV will be assigned to work with specific crew(s) and mobile facilities at any number of different venues.

I don't know why the rates and contract details are crappy for most operators, maybe OBS is just looking at too big a picture to see and understand us little guys, but it all comes down to what can you live with and what's it worth to you to be a part of the Olympics.

Cheers

Some time ago, me and a fellow op where asked for the worldcup soccer games in switserland. The rates where to low, and we where forced to work on rental rigs. We both walked away and made a statement. But to bad there where other ops who took the job and scred us all. Oh well .....
