Premium Members JamieSilverstein Posted August 19, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 19, 2009 One other note about the Monitor Shootout East Coast Style........ Even if you are not a member of Local 600, you are welcome to attend the event. When you RSVP please tell Robbie that you spoke to me and that you would like to attend. I look forward to seeing anyone who is interested in seeing these monitors at the event. See you there!! Jamie
Premium Members JamieSilverstein Posted August 20, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 20, 2009 And to further what Alec is saying...... I think that in LA they had between 20,000 and 30,000 people attend the Monitor Shootout. We have to show some East Coast Pride and have a great turnout here too. I'm hoping for at least 40,000 attendants............ JUST KIDDING. But we do want everyone on the East Coast to come out and see the monitors, rub elbows, see the D-21 in action and hang out in the New CSC digs. You don't have to be a Union member to come to the event, but because it is being sponsored by the union, you have to call there to resereve a spot. Reservations are to make sure that we have ample lunch supplied. Call 212 647-7300 and ask for Robbie. Come and show some East Coast Steadicam Pride! Any questions, feel free to call me at 917 796-4217. Alec and I look forward to seeing all of you on Saturday at 12. Jamie

Premium Members Ramon Engle Posted August 21, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 21, 2009 Looks like Tim McNany from Tamuz will be bringing his 7' OLED monitor for comparison as well. Ramon

Premium Members Jeff Muhlstock SOC Posted August 23, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 23, 2009 I wanted to give a huge thanks to the guys that put this together! Jamie, Alec, Lewis, CSC and all the manufacturers that showed gear, THANK YOU! It was great to finally meet some of you and enjoy a rainy day in Secaucus, NJ. As for the monitors, 2 winners for me, Nebtec & Transvideo. I will be purchasing one or both of these in the very near future. These were the stand out daylight viewable HD LCDs in my opinion. All very promising products shown, it was great to see this development. More details and photos will follow. Jeff

All very promising products shown, it was great to see this development. More details and photos will follow. Jeff I have to agree with Jeff here, the Nebby & the Transvideo were quite exceptional in terms of brightness, good viewing angles and (lack of) ambient light reflection. One note about the Transvideo... which is fully loaded with all of the tools/toys & scopes a DP would love: The best viewing is either straight on, (or course), or from slightly above and from a dramatically lower angle looking up, (side to side viewing is also very good). This seemed somewhat counterintuitive for a monitor designed with Steadicam Ops in mind, as most common usage would be with the monitor below eye level with the op looking down, and the monitor either flat to the horizon or tilted upwards. Since there is a larger angle of view from below looking upwards perhaps this was a concession to folks using it as an onboard, (with camera in studio mode), where the monitor is placed at or above eye level a good deal of the time for the focus puller. As Marianne from Transvideo explained to me, this is something that they will invert for you, (I believe at no cost- but don't quote me), so that it would provide this greater viewing ability with the monitor below eye level and the op looking down upon it. Otherwise you are going to be mounting it upside down and all of your buttons and switches are also upside down. On another note, I also wish to thank Jamie, Alec, Lewis and of course Charlie & CSC for putting this together- it was great meeting so many ops in one place.
