Premium Members Brant S. Fagan SOC Posted October 10, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 10, 2009 Charles, et. al-- Here's a look at my very custom sled from my latest feature carrying the RED. Note the ACME Gimbal, Boland monitor, Red Byte Decimator and the latest Anton Bauer DionicHC. Video is now HD down the post with local downconversion and SD properly DAed throughout the sled for the traditional uses.

Premium Members Rob Vuona SOC Posted October 10, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 10, 2009 all gear fits into a smart car and sometimes through the front window...lol. my hero...robvski Fracol lol.....ok so my extra masters arm shattered my windshield, my fault for being lazy and just throwing it in on top of a case and hoping a sand bag would hold it in place?!? But honestly there's something to be said about you guys having everything under the sun to cover your ass on set but my three cases and wheeled stand have never let me down to date. Plus I can drive right into the sound stage and build right outa the back of the Smart Car and then park it next to Craft service or under the nose of the production truck
Premium Members Kevin Andrews SOC Posted October 13, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 13, 2009 My rig (efp growing into a pro) is built with a practice cage and on a c-stand in it's own room. Like to tinker on it and be reminded why I have no free cash. I really like Brant's idea of storing the sled built in that custom box. Adam Tyler
I learned an important lesson about cases that I want to share with you guys. I fit some of my gear into pelican case 1650, 2 of them went with me from LA to Nashville. I decided to zip tie my cases closed and I am glad I did. when I picked up my cases at the airport all 7 latches were open on one of them, the only thing holding my sled in the case was 2 zip ties. The other 1650 had 4 of 7 latches open. lesson learned without a major loss, so Im happy. I hear storm cases dont do this so I am going all storm cases from now on, good thing they are all made by the same company. I also learned that storm cases are lighter so I like that too. next time I fly with my rig I am going to zip tie and tape a lot. or maybe just master locks all around
Premium Members Mike Marriage Posted October 16, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 16, 2009 The older Pelis had terrible latches but the newer ones seem to have addressed the issue with a safety clip on the latch requiring positive pressure rather than just a knock to release it. I only ever see them on rentals so not sure if it works, all my cases are Storm and I love them! Cheaper and better IMHO.
Premium Members Sanjay Sami Posted October 24, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 24, 2009 my three cases and wheeled stand have never let me down to date. Plus I can drive right into the sound stage and build right outa the back of the Smart Car and then park it next to Craft service or under the nose of the production truck Working alongside Larry " 1 ton" McConkey is an experience in itself. He has 37 cases (including rickshaw and windscreen) and one truck just for his gear. He is covered for every eventuality under the sun and then some. What really strikes me as amazing is that when I have a problem with my rig, he will stay back after wrap and help me solve the problem, no matter how long it takes. The most generous man I have worked with. But I think even the biggest fleet of smart cars will not manage to handle Larrys gear :D Sanjay Sami

Premium Members John atkinson Posted February 23, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 Briant, I'm curious to know what rig is that in your case? I cringe when I see cases that size with no wheels. JA
Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted February 24, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 24, 2012 Case 1: Sled and some accessories Case 2: Arm, vest, and sometimes a battery charger Case 3: Batteries, specialty cables, low mode cage, and whatever else I need on set Case 4: a cooler with plenty of water bottles and snacks(for when your producer will pay for an operator, but not craft services...) Stuff that get thrown in loose: Two Mathews digital baby stands, 5-6 sandbags, weight cage, and a cart since none of my cases have wheels O.o
