Premium Members Matt Kearney Posted September 22, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 22, 2009 Hey Guys, Just wondering if anyone has any success with Hd wevi and the Panasonic Varicam?? Mine transmits a hd signal but it rolls on the monitor. Just wondering if that was just here in PAL land and it was alright in the US? Thanks everyone. Cheers Matt

Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted September 23, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 23, 2009 Hi, the receiver gives you an HD-sdi signal out, there is no pal output, check your monitor settings, maybe it does not support the signal or frame rate. What monitor are you using?

Premium Members Zachary Shannon Posted September 29, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 29, 2009 Hi Jens, Thanks for the help. I am using a boland lcd that will accept hdsdi, but i have tried it on two other monitors and same result.???? Hello Matt, Thank you very much for using our CW5HD transmission system. The rolling image is due to an incompatible video signal/frame rate. What frame rate are you trying to transmit? IDX
Premium Members James Leonzio Posted October 17, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 17, 2009 Matt, Having the same exact problem here in NTSC world. Here's my signal chain... RED ONE SDI Out to Cam Wave TX wireless to Cam Wave RX SDI to Panasonic 17" HD monitor SDI input Signal looks clean, but it's rolling. I'll check the output frame rate of the RED tomorrow. Hopefully it's just a menu adjustment. Thanks IDX for the heads up.
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted October 17, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 17, 2009 James: I've worked with that exact setup, down to the 17" Panasonic, without problems...trying to think where the issue could be coming from. Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted October 18, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 18, 2009 If I recall correctly, earlier versions of the IDX HD Cam-Wave didn't support certain frame rates (23.98??) and so an upgrade is required to your unit. It is available and new versions are shipping with this already in place.

When the RED is on a timebase of 24, rolling image, boooo. When set to 23.98, perfecto! Since there was already footage shot at a 24 timebase yesterday, everyone (including me) was afraid to switch to 23.98 in fear that FCP might not like to handle different timebases within the same timeline. Although, wasn't this one of the selling points for FCP? I'm not an editor and to be honest, DF vs. NDF never really made sense to me. If someone knows the real deal, and can explain it in layman's terms, it would be greatly appreciated. As for the updated version of the Cam Wave, yeah, I think you're right Jason. The one I bought was the only one B&H had in stock, so that makes me think something is up. I'll be calling IDX tomorrow. Thanks for everyone's help. Premium Members Charles Papert Posted October 18, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 18, 2009 The 24 frame issue was resolved something like 8 months ago--I'd be surprised if there were units in stock from before that revision at major resellers like B&H. James, all you need when you call IDX is the serial number of the unit, they can check on the rev. number for you. The update was for 24psf, incidentally--the unit was passing other flavors of 24p fine, including the one generated by the RED. Pre-current firmware handled the RED image fine but had issues with Sony's and other cameras using 24psf. I've always shot 23.98 with RED so I'd never seen an issue there. Premium Members James Leonzio Posted October 20, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 20, 2009 So just got off the phone with Zach from IDX. He was very helpful. The unit I have has the latest upgrade already, but even so, the cam wave does not support a 24 frame timebase, only 23.98. So I guess when it comes to the RED, do as Charles does. Just shoot 23.98. This seems to be the popular choice anyway. Thanks for the help everyone.
