Just wanted to introduce my self I am a senior at Columbia college Chicago I hail fro New Jersey and have been out here in the Midwest for about two years now. I am an aspiring 1st AC and steDicam op. I look forward to joining this community and my only question is do I buy my own small rig or do I rent out a local rig for now? You're going to need/want a lot of practice time, and it's great to have a rig already built and ready to put on whenever you've got some extra time. You can buy a used Pilot for $3000-3500 or second gen Flyer for $4500-5000 or so. Well worth the investment if you want to get good, and the skills will translate to a big rig if you go that way later on.
