Resolution vs Image quality

Recommended Posts

That article came out in September 2008, and was discussed extensively on RED Centre podcast, episode 17. I haven’t listened to it since it first came out, but I remember Mike Seymour clearing up some misconceptions expressed in the article and in reaction to the article.

Since it was published, there have been many new RED camera builds, and I’m sure many improvements to other camera technologies, as well as an improved understanding of how digital cameras are best used. So, I don’t know how relevant the article is today, but you got me curious enough to give it another listen.

i don't think that new camera builds aka software will fix the structural flaws of the system.

We'll have to see how some of these issues resolve with the upcoming RED systems.

I was thinking about this in terms of the ASC camera shootout that was done a while ago, with the footage finally becoming viewable to the public. In a year, most if not all of those cameras will have seen upgrades, revamps or complete replacement and it will have to be done all over again. Take the D21 (please) which I'm shlepping at the moment: before long those will be relegated to low budget films while the Alexa line becomes the workhorse (looking forward to those cameras very much).
