Premium Members Charles King Posted December 12, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 12, 2009 I have this cable and since I'm not sure if I can sell it, I was thinking of modding it to fit the Archer's contact on the top stage which is a 3pin. The cable is a 2pin to pin arrangement. So I was thinking of replacing the 2pin LEMO with a 3pin LEMO so it can be used together with the archer contact. Now I just want to know if the third pin (pin 1, I'm guessing), which is above the 2 lower pin ( 2 & 3 ) is a inactive pin? Or in short is the two wires just connected to the 2&3 pin contact? Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted December 13, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2009 (edited) On my Flyer LE's FGG.0B.303 female LEMO: Pin 1: GND Pin 2: 12V+ Pin 3: 24V+ This means that if you are looking at the pins of the male connector, the pinout diagram would be counter clockwise. It is my understanding that the Archer is the same connector, but check with Terry West to be positive. I would double check this as it has always been my understanding that pin 2 is +12V and pin 3 is+ 24V and I've made maybe 50 cables this way with no reports of trouble Jim "do I smell smoke?" Premium Members Afton Grant Posted December 13, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2009 A few seconds with a multimeter would clear everything right up.
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted December 13, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2009 (edited) Jim, re-read my post. You must have replied right as I caught my error. Afton, those results are from a multimeter plus a visual double check on the back side of the plug (thanks to the skimpy open air construction of the flyer's J-box equivalent). On a side note, my multimeter showed 12V+ on both pins 2 and 3 with the switch in 24V mode (pin 2 being the red wire, pin 3 being a white wire). With the switch in 12V mode, only pin 2 reads 12V+. Someone speak up if that should read differently. Edited December 13, 2009 by Mike Germond
Premium Members Charles King Posted December 13, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2009 Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. Now the cable I have is exactly 190mm in length. What is the MAX length of a Focus motor cable?
Premium Members JimBartell Posted December 13, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2009 Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. Now the cable I have is exactly 190mm in length. What is the MAX length of a Focus motor cable? I've made 5 foot ones before without trouble, but any longer than that is a gamble. It also depends on the motor cable used. Someone sent in a system because the motor made a constant ringing sound. I changed the motor cable and it solved the problem. They had had there own motor cable made with a 5 conductor cable from ARRI that caused the problem. I changed it to Mogami and the problem went away. The cable was only about 2 feet long. Premium Members Charles King Posted December 13, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2009 Thanks Jim. I was planning to make it a little longer than 190mm just to have some leeway when it comes between placing the motor and stage. Thanks again. So I would probably use a length of 260mm. Premium Members Charles King Posted December 27, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 27, 2009 Jim, just an update. Just wanted another clarification. So seeing that the archer stage has a 3 pol contact on the front side, labelled 12/24vdc i have made the cable itself as: 1 - GND 2 - 24v 3 - 12v Do i have this correct? So when the cable is connected to the stage it will match the contacts as they are.

Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted December 28, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 28, 2009 Jim, Shouldn't it be a mirror image of the diagram I posted? The diagram was for the female LEMO on the sled. If he's making a Male cable, shouldn't the pins read clockwise?

In the end it doesn't matter, just follow the painted line from pin 1 to 2 to 3. The half circle is around pin 1. The solder side of all connectors have the painted line indicating which pin is which. Edited December 28, 2009 by JimBartell
Premium Members Charles King Posted December 28, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 28, 2009 Ok guys. Well guys if you look at the contact on the stage from the contact side then it has to be a mirror image. So it has to be like this: Contact 1 on the stage goes to 1 on the cable wire. Contact 2 on the stage goes to contact 3 on the cable. It has to be this way to comply with the contacts on the stage. Right?
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted December 28, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 28, 2009 I think what Jim is saying is that there should be numbers on the solder side of the LEMO connector pins that correspond to the diagram, regardless of which way you're looking at it. Premium Members Charles King Posted December 28, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 28, 2009 Ok. But not all of the lemo contacts have the numbers . But the diagram is pretty straight forward. The lemo contact on the archer front side is embedded in a circuit board. So you cannot see the contact
