Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted June 25, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted June 25, 2006 Okay, just had someone other than Wing request a copy, which makes me think a digital copy would help things. Problem is I just don't have the time now to scan a 50 page manual. Any volunteers here in the US (so shipping is fast and cheap)????? I'll send it to you for you to scan and either email or post online. I suppose we ought to check with Tiffen to make sure this is okay. Thanks. Walter Atzeni
Hello friends, i have a cp 3a sled but I think to eliminate the old electronic module of the 3A and to acquire a modern module that is compatible with the sled and does not demand too many modifications for ressere installed. According to you I can install on sled 3A a module base of the mk-v? Better E' manterene the 3A cosi as it is without modifications? I suffer also to the back and every service that it makes us always worse oè: when I become Bravo I will have to abandon the steadicam: -))) Can you help me to select a model d-box? thanks a lot

Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted September 26, 2006 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted September 26, 2006 Reading between the lines: <_< Walter, do you have experience in Steadicam operating? If it hurts your back so much and you are afraid that you have to give up Steadicam, then you are DOING SOMETHING WRONG !!!!!!! (or your body is just not in a good shape) I am 47 years, 173cm short, weight 66 kilos and can carry and operate a day with heavy camera's so the total weight is more then half my body weight without pain, tired yes, but nothing that really hurts. Sure, many manufacturers can upgrade your IIIA system, or you can do it yourself, with parts from here or there, its only metal and wires. Much more important is how you use it and I have the impression that you really need a good workshop and instruction, and possibly a workout/fitness program. Be careful with your body, it's the only one you have, not replacable !!!
Premium Members Martin Newstead Posted October 14, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 14, 2006 Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if you could convert an NTSC 3a monitor to PAL. I have been looking for a 3a for a while but most of the rigs out there are based in America or Canada and I am worried that I may be stuck with an NTSC version. Is it possible to swap the boards or something? Thanks for any input! Marty
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted October 14, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted October 14, 2006 Martin, Greetings. First things first - please change your log-in name to your real name. Thank you. Good news for you regarding the 3a. Assuming the unit is still equipped with the original green screen (& what a bright little monitor she was) then it is both NTSC & PAL compatible. There is a set of pots inside the main electronics box that need to be tweaked to optimize it for one format or the other. You should only need to adjust the vertical hold pot, but you may find yourself tweaking the size pots too. IMPORTANT!!!!!! Because of the nature of the 3a electronics, you have a large amount of voltage passing through these electronics - be VERY careful when you do this (the unit needs to be on with a video source being fed to the monitor so you can see what your adjustments are doing). Use a plastic screwdriver to adjust pots, etc. Also, find a 3a manual to find location of said pots. We used to have to do this in the field to do a PAL job (or vice versa). A quick search of the archives yielded this thread: http://steadicamforum.com:8081/~steadicam/guests It is talking about the ProVid, but the basics are the same. Try searching more (old years are probably better). Good luck.

Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted March 4, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 4, 2007 what's in the lower electronics housing now that you don't need the guts anymore? It's too bad the 3A monitor required a bit too much maintenance and a hail mary everytime the on switch was flipped. It was small, but still the brightest, best looking monitor ever. rb
