Premium Members Charles King Posted January 3, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 Hi guys. Modifying rigs is what I love doing. Thought this thread will encourage those of you who have modify their rigs, to post pics of systems that have been modified. I know Charles Papert and if I'm not mistaken Rob also has a heavily modified sled. There are others but cannot remember the names. So if you like to show us what you've done please do so in this thread. I guess anything goes. :) Just a friendly casual thread
Premium Members Afton Grant Posted January 3, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 I'm having trouble thinking of someone that hasn't performed some sort of modification to their rig.
Premium Members Charles King Posted January 3, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 Well, it would be really good to see these rigs all here. ;)
Premium Members Brant S. Fagan SOC Posted January 3, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 OK, Charles, I'll take the bait even though my sled is built from the ground up as a custom ride rather than a modified original. Here's my BFX II sled: The only store bought items are the Donkey Box I, Preston system and the mini-dv recorder.
Premium Members Charles King Posted January 3, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 Looks awesome Brant but as a little difficult to see. Do you by any chance have a bigger pic?
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted January 3, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 I have been lucky over the past year or so to have spent a good deal of time in NY working. The highlight to me was the interesting people and crew members I met/worked with (wonderful food laden with cholesterol was a close second). Larry McConkey did a good deal of work on additional units, and spending a bit of time with him talking shop (and booze) was a true pleasure. Here is a few snap shots of his sled: Larry's sled next to Peter Vietro's Jerry Hill sled rb

Premium Members Charles King Posted January 3, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 Ron, that is one outrageous combo man. :) The mixture on that rig really eye jumping   Great rig setup. I take it this setup is only used on extreme situations. Rob, Enjoy your ski tour. will be looking forward to those pics. :) i think these setups really give some ideas to others. Thanks for taking the time to post these great pics guys.

I imagine it's his usual set-up. rb

Panasonic lcd, added docking rings, added a small video transmitter to lower sled, removed lower battery cage to allow for newer AB, tape wrapped the gimbal handle. Wish I could say I found a clever way to mount the BFD receiver, but nope, gaff tape. One of the best improvements I believe I made, deals with the handling. I added some (although ugly) weights to the monitor arm which helps get the rig much closer to dynamic balance. That's the most excitement I got on my end! http://www.flickr.com/photos/38438483@N02/4242200984/

Premium Members Charles King Posted January 4, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Kevin, great mod. What monitor bracket are you using? Don't worry about the gaffer tape. It is your friend. ;) CP, your ink does not work but if it is the same rig that I've seen before then as always. you're a great inspiration. :) Edited January 4, 2010 by Charles King

Not much adjustability with it. But it has some handy "speed rail" type holes which made it very easy to add weights to it. My ideal setup would be an XCS and Marshall 6.5". I'm making sure that any improvements or add ons done in the future (top stage, arm, vest) contribute towards a new rig, which is why I haven't done any EFP specific upgrades like battery hangers or 3A gimbal switches. Thanks Rob! Edited January 4, 2010 by Kevin Andrews

I take it this setup is only used on extreme situations. What do you mean by that? that looks like a normal everyday working rig. My working rig would probably disappoint you since it's pretty much a stock XCS Ultimate
