PaulEdwards
Just done a search on the forum for comments regarding using ACF-50. Unfortunately I think the comments I'm looking for were lost when we were hacked. I remember Peter Abraham and Larry writing in and I'm sure there were others who were impressed with ACF-50. Having spent two days on or near a Dublin beach, I have decided to try it out on my arm and my main question was whether I should be worried about getting the stuff into the bearings and how it might react with the grease already in there. Is it safe to spray it everywhere including on the plastic coated spring cables? There aren't any 'do-not' warnings on the can which I find reassuring and disconcerting! Any comments appreciated, Paul
KarloTomic
Hey Paul, I had the same concerns as you and asked Larry about how liberal I could be with applying it to my arm (master series), and he said the only concern would be with anything made of rubber. other than that go crazy with the shit! Larry McConkey
It is only natural rubber that ACF-50 will attack, and there is almost nothing made of natural rubber anymore because the atmosphere itself deteriorates natural rubber. Any rubber these days is synthetic and that is fine - so the only thing that ACF-50 should not be used on is anything that depends upon friction! Also be aware that it will migrate into difficult to reach areas over time, especially with motion, so if you spray an area and it doesn't seem to do the job, wait a few minutes and test it again... it lasts up to a year or two and will eat away at existing corrosion to some extent as well as preventing it. Paul I saved the info on where you can buy ACF-50 on the Steadicam Guild web site. Under "Tech Tips" http://www.steadicamguild.net
Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted October 1, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 1, 2004 David, The tech tips link on the website isn't working. Just thought I'd let you know. All the rest of the links seem to be working fine.
PaulEdwards
Thanks for the comments guys. If anyone in the UK is interested in getting hold of a can of ACF-50, I got mine from... http://www.jaws-motorcycles.co.uk/ They posted it straight away and were happy for me to send a cheque once it had arrived. It cost just over £15 inc. postage. Paul

All the rest of the links seem to be working fine. Thanks for letting me know Brad. Hmm. Seems to be working on my computer. I have a PC w/explorer. You might have to click on "Tech Tips" twice or choose from one of the selections? There is actually only one tech tip listed so far and that's the last one on the list under Clean/repair/modify. Try that out and let me know if it works. If it still doesn't work, I'll just change the way those pages are selected.
Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted October 3, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 3, 2004 Nope, still doesn't work. It won't even let me click on it.

Premium Members joe mcnally Posted October 17, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 17, 2004 Hi Paul just wondered if the ACF50 is a similar product to WD40 ? BTW I was working in North Wales last week with a young actress whose parents are your neighbours, small world ! Joe McNally
PaulEdwards
Hi Joe, ACF-50 is far superior to WD-40 (hence the price!). It does the penetrating/lubricating thing but also stops corrosion on contact and forms a non-oily protective barrier. Here is the blurb from the sellers..... "ACF-50 is a state-of-the-art anti-corrosion/lubricating compound that has been specially designed for aviation and aerospace use. It is a clean, clear, non-toxic, ultra-thin fluid compound which leaves a non-greasy atmospheric barrier to protect metal surfaces. ACF-50 will kill corrosion cells on contact and completely remove the moisture from the metal surface. It actively penetrates into seams, lap joints and even beneath rivet heads, expelling moisture and saline solutions (salt water). ACF-50 can be used on all types of plastics, paints and seals without fear of damage. ACF-50, with a dielectric rating of almost 40KV, can be used to great effect on all your electrical connections too. No matter how hot, cold, humid, or salt-laden your atmosphere is, ACF-50 will perform. It will remain effective for up to two years." I guess the 'young actress' in North Wales must have been Morven Mercer? Cheers Paul
Premium Members joe mcnally Posted October 19, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 Thanks Paul I'll order some over the next few days, all predictions are for severe winter in UK, niiice. Did you get a definitive answer regarding spraying into already greased/lubricated parts. I am still not clear. joe
