Jensen Posted January 18, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 18, 2010 I have decided that I'm going to invest in the Tiffen Clipper 312 - and I could use some advise about choosing the right case for Arm and vest + accessories. It could be nice to have some pictures of the accessories on the Tiffen website. But I can't seem to find any. So now I turn to you! What's the soft bag like, that comes standard with the system? Should I choose to upgrade to the Hard Case for the Arm/Vest? Does it fit the extra accessories (Batteries, cables etc.)? Or is there a better solution? Sled Case from Tiffen: Sled Monitor Backup monitor 2 RF links Video transmitters 2 RF links video receivers Low mode bracket Digital level Tiffen vest bag: (1650 for flying/shipping) Vest Arm Docking bracket Shelf for American Stand (from Back stage) Rain covers Antlers Pelican 1550 case A 8 steadicam Power cubes 2- dual chargers Cables, screws, all in little bags Shark fin antenna for RF revivers Pelican 1550 case B 2- bartech 2- M-one motors All cables and gears for Bartech and M-one 2- directors LCD monitors Extra camera plate, wireless audio baskets, A/B plate and other bits and pieces 1- 2 riser American stand with wheels 1- rock-N-roller hand truck small tool bag I can get all my gear into a cab which is great since I do not own a car. RobinThwaites Posted January 19, 2010 Report Share Posted January 19, 2010 Hi Thomas The Hard case is a wheeled hard case identical in size and shape to the sled case. It takes the arm inside its soft sleeve which then slides inside the vest which all fits into the soft bag that you get with the 312. There is room for a charger and some batteries and other accessories (there is also some room for batteries and accessories in the sled case). For me transporting in a car or van this works well as does flying by freight, if you are taking it as baggage it is very easy to go over the maximums unless you choose your airline carefully and then get really hammered for excess. The cases are Thermodyne type and will take quite a hammering although I advise taping up the catches well for airfreight. We normally ship new rigs in just these cases and an outer sleeve which is primarily to protect the case. Robin Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I will tell you that when traveling, knowing that when you see those two cases come up off the belts or delivered, rest assured I can fly a camera. I keep all my cables & dock in the vest & arm case... so if the preston and all the other gadgets for some mishap don't make it, I can still work. It's also almost the same price as a normal Peli/Storm Case. Today I ordered the system, at my danish dealer. SOFT BAGS folks except for shipping. The largest hard case I carry on a daily basis is a Pelican 1550 (three of them; four if bringing gyros). One for the Preston, one for video aks (tuners, clam shells, transmitters), and one for spare parts (including spare monitor) that usually stays on the truck. Batteries and charger in a Portabrace. Modular 51 bag for many cables (many in aforementioned Pelicans), hard mount, docks, camera plates, screws, and things I need around all the time (also acts as ditty bag on set). Duffel bag for arm and vest (arm goes in a soft-bag and then sits inside the vest). I use a Sled Sock for the sled. If shipping, I then put the sled in an A&J anvil case. Arm & vest in a Pelican 1650. Battery Portabrace drops right into another A&J hard case and the Modular 51 bag goes into an Action Packer (I think?
