Premium Members Jamie Hammond Posted January 25, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 25, 2010 Hi, I'm pretty sure this subject has been asked before but I can't find it in the search. Im looking for an alternative to the Sony Baseplate which I believe is the VCT-U14. There is quite a lot of play from the Sony baseplate and I remember using a thinner more permanent fixture than the Sony sometime back. If any one can point me in the right direction that would be great. Best J
Premium Members Ken Nguyen Posted January 25, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 25, 2010 Baer-Bel has one. Rock solid, light weight, and thin. Mine is an older version; the newest 2010 version seems to be much better. http://www.baer-bel.de/deutsch/deutsch.html Ken.

It locks the camera tight, and there is no jitter in the picture. I have had two of those for almost four years, and they haven't become loose. Really rock solid - but also almost four times as expensive as a normal Sony plate. Thomas :-)
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted January 25, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 25, 2010 I bought my own Sony baseplate years back and had Tom Gleason at Cinewidgets adapt it with a set of rods on each side for motors etc.. Since I take good care of it and don't let people rough-house a camera onto it it locks solid unless the bottom of the camera has a lot of wear. Premium Members Markus Rave Posted January 26, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 26, 2010 ARRI brought out a plate like the Chrosziel. Other look but quite similar in quality. I have two Chrosziel and one I found on ebay. Fast and rock solid.

Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted March 15, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 15, 2010 Brian Busby has one, and Baer-bel have one, which you can use with your standard dovetail, and the newest MK-V dovetail has a Sony attachment at the back, so you don't need to use two plates (however this only works if you are working with a standard lens - the optics of the wide angle make it too front heavy to use unless you have an RF link or large battery on the back end)
Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted March 15, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 15, 2010 Arriflex now has one, since the Alexa uses a sony style plate. VERY rigid, and very spendy (~$3000)
