Hi,

I'm pretty sure this subject has been asked before but I can't find it in the search.

Im looking for an alternative to the Sony Baseplate which I believe is the VCT-U14. There is quite a lot of play from the Sony baseplate and I remember using a thinner more permanent fixture than the Sony sometime back.

If any one can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Best

J

The QuickLock Plate 130 from Chrosziel is the best plate I've come around.

It locks the camera tight, and there is no jitter in the picture.

I have had two of those for almost four years, and they haven't become loose.

Really rock solid - but also almost four times as expensive as a normal Sony plate.

Thomas :-)

I bought my own Sony baseplate years back and had Tom Gleason at Cinewidgets adapt it with a set of rods on each side for motors etc.. Since I take good care of it and don't let people rough-house a camera onto it it locks solid unless the bottom of the camera has a lot of wear.

Brian Busby has one, and Baer-bel have one, which you can use with your standard dovetail, and the newest MK-V dovetail has a Sony attachment at the back, so you don't need to use two plates (however this only works if you are working with a standard lens - the optics of the wide angle make it too front heavy to use unless you have an RF link or large battery on the back end)
